Pro-life conservatives are 'disappointed' in Trump's new abortion policy, but stick by him: 'only one option'

Conservative groups backing former president Donald Trump in his re-election bid say they are "deeply disappointed" with his official position on abortion unveiled Monday, but it won't deter their support in November.

The former president and presumptive GOP nominee in a video posted on Truth Social Monday morning said he cemented his position on the controversial issue, saying that abortion access should be a states’ issue and didn’t endorse a national, federal limitation – like a 15-week ban.

Pro-life interest groups who have endorsed Trump expressed disappointment at his announcement, but it appears unlikely to sway their support in consideration of Trump’s overall stance compared to Biden’s extreme abortion policy.

"The reality of a stark choice between President Biden who supports abortion: any number, any reason, up until birth, all paid for by the taxpayer and President Trump: who gave us three Constitutionalist justices, 220 lower court judges, appointees who support life and the overturn of Roe v. Wade has my endorsement and support in November for President," said Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America (CWA), who said she "favors federal limits on abortion."

At one time, EVERY STATE held abortion as a crime.

And stop calling it abortion.....call it what it is...MURDER of an innocent child....and the Constitution says..."LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

>> Going left? Saying lets the states decide isn’t going left <<

Sure, let's substitute abortion for any other moral issue and see how well that works:

Let's say the 2nd amendment is repealed tomorrow, and we send it back to the states.
Reacting to that, Trump REFUSES to support ANY kind of NATIONAL legislation guaranteeing the right to keep and bear arms, he just agrees on letting the STATES decide for themselves IF people should be ALLOWED to own a gun! If SOME states think its OK to allow citizens to own SOME guns under SOME limited circumstances, well, that's just fine. If OTHER states choose to TOTALLY disarm their citizens and not allow ANY type of firearm ownership within their state boundaries, that's just fine too. If the people in that state don't like having ALL their guns taken away, simply just MOVE to another state. The federal government shouldn't get involved in that, whatsoever!

A policy position like that would certainly NOT be "going left".

Thanks again for clarifying what TRUE conservativism is, Senator Stephen A. Douglas!

Sorry but you are rather foolish.

What was the state of abortion before the Roe V Wade Ruling?

It was a state issue there was no political will or capital for a national ban… there was no eminent threat of one.. and neither party was dedicating resources to enact one.

Now you are welcome to fight for a national ban if you like, and work to get enough support to pass one, but just like in 1973, there is not any serious political ability at the moment to get one passed. If folks want one they are welcome to fight for one and work tirelessly for decades to change the political climate to a point that never existed in this country to ban it nationally, but claiming the guy who actually got rid of Roe after 5 decades of empty promises is the enemy because he isn’t where you want him to be is just silly.
