Conservative groups backing former president Donald Trump in his re-election bid say they are "deeply disappointed" with his official position on abortion unveiled Monday, but it won't deter their support in November.
The former president and presumptive GOP nominee in a video posted on Truth Social Monday morning said he cemented his position on the controversial issue, saying that abortion access should be a states’ issue and didn’t endorse a national, federal limitation – like a 15-week ban.
Pro-life interest groups who have endorsed Trump expressed disappointment at his announcement, but it appears unlikely to sway their support in consideration of Trump’s overall stance compared to Biden’s extreme abortion policy.
"The reality of a stark choice between President Biden who supports abortion: any number, any reason, up until birth, all paid for by the taxpayer and President Trump: who gave us three Constitutionalist justices, 220 lower court judges, appointees who support life and the overturn of Roe v. Wade has my endorsement and support in November for President," said Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America (CWA), who said she "favors federal limits on abortion."

And you’re doing the same. You erroneously claimed I criticized Reagan and then attacked me for it. Kettle…meet pot.
Your solution is that conservatives surrender, and just adopt a the leftists positions. You are really learning the wrong lessons. Since 1994, Republicans topped fighting, and stopped communicating well. Reagan didn't get elected because he was swimming with the tide.
How do you expect to win on anything, when you come out and say "conservatives" need to surrender and move to the left?
You keep feeding the crocodile, are you so sure it's never going to eat you?
Erik is a huge Never Trumper. I guess that means he’s voting for Biden in November. What choice does any conservative have at this point, unless they don’t GAF if Biden is re-elected.
Never trust a salesman to be honest.
Captain Compassion has it exactly right: the only way to end abortion Constitutionally at the Federal level is to pass a Constitutional Amendment. An Amendment explicitly affirming as a matter of legal definition that the unborn are human persons. That legal declaration entitles them all to every human right enjoyed by their post-natal peers; chief among them, the Right To Life.
Even the waffling cowards who first enshrined Roe admitted that the whole legal edifice would collapse in a heap if the unborn were affirmatively recognized as persons in Law. Well, the only place in Law to accomplish that nationwide is a Constitutional “Personhood” Amendment.
“If this suggestion of personhood is established, [Roe’s] case, of course, collapses, for the fetus’ right to life would then be guaranteed.”
— Justice Harry Blackmun
But until that day, if it ever comes, Trump’s stance affirming the primacy of The Constitution’s Tenth Amendment in delegating un-enumerated powers to the several States sets him apart from all comers. He should be lauded, not castigated, for rejecting the foul tactic of the Left: to carve every bullet point in their agenda into the very grain of the Federal Government — the Judiciary in particular — the swing it like a club over the heads of the People and the several States.
Happily, among the several States is exactly where the battle for the personhood of the unborn is now being most hotly pressed. Gains are few, and opposition is intense, because the loss of Roe has spun up the Blood Cultists into an amplified state of bile-spewing agitation. Still, there is greater hope for 50 State Constitutional amendments than for a single Federal one. So, yet again, Trump’s comment is germane: handle it at the State level, as The Founders and the Framers also intended.
I guess Axios faked the video of Trump in his own words saying it?
This proves you are vapid and unable to accept the truth.
You are not a conservative because you do not seek truth.
Saying what? It’s Axios trying to add context that doesn’t exist, by their own admission in the same article, that I was laughing at. Never mind you ignoring that yourself, aside from using it as a source at all.
And then you follow up with name calling, which is typical of liberals. What am I supposed to conclude after that?
IIRC, he spent most of his adult life as pro-abortion. He has told of his come-to-Jesus moment where he changed his stance, involving friends of his.
“ensure that no Federal tax monies went to abortion groups and/or providers.”
Yes. That’s it for me. Criminals are going to commit crimes, but we don’t need to subsidize their sinful decisions.
If you are going to smear me, at least have the courage to tag me in the post instead of being a coward.
I supported DeSantis as I do not like Trump's abortion stance (his willingness to negotiate and make it a federal issue again) nor his stand on gun control (supports a ban on assault weapons).
But I will vote for him in November (just as I voted for him in 2016 and 2020) because the alternative if far, far worse.
But you go ahead, coward, and impugn anyone who dares dissent with your Lord Trump. In my eyes, you are no different than Biden trying to suppress political speech online, just you come from the other side. It still makes you a fascist.
Abortion is back in the states where it should have been all along. As a pro-lifer I am grateful for Trumps actions to overturn Roe and put abortion back in the hands of the people instead of the courts. His position now, should he win allows for more conservative judges to be installed and for Republicans at the state level to stand up and decide pro life or pro death and make the case for either to the voters.
As I told a pro death friend of mine when Roe was over turned. Go to your friends, family and neighbors and make your case for killing babies and ask them to codify it at the state legislature. If you have a good argument they will listen to you, if not they won’t. She wasn’t a happy leftist.
“Lord Trump” = more liberal rhetoric, on MSNBC level. Thanks for bringing 2016 back.
I’m at least happy to see you are not going to vote for the endgame phase of “fundamental transformation”, and thanks.
Seems to me Trump said he wanted anti-Roe Justices, then he nominated them.
Justices give no positions on cases that might come before them.
How can you call it Health Care when you, deliberately and with malice, kill one of the patients.
Sure, but these things are known.
It’s clear Trump wanted Roe dead, and it’s also clear he knew the way to get it done. Then Roe died.
There is a strong movement to advance the political narrative that Trump didn’t kill Roe v Wade.
But Trump did kill Row v Wade. His enemies, who are our enemies, conspire to take the credit from him.
