NYC Homeowners Told They Will Be Arrested If They Turn Off Electricity, Water As Squatters Take Over
Townhall ^ | April 07, 2024 | Sarah Arnold

The woke city of New York is being overrun by rampant crime, illegal immigrants, and now squatters thanks to a law that turns them into tenants after 30 days.

New York City homeowners are being pushed to financial limits that allow squatters to live rent-free. At the same time, the owners are forced to keep paying electricity and maintenance bills for the apartments.

Under New York City law, anyone who lives in a home or apartment for at least 30 days can claim squatter’s rights, even if they broke into the property without permission from the owner.

Squatters are taking advantage of New York City laws while homeowners go broke.

Several homeowners told CBS that they would be “arrested instantly” if they were to change the locks, evict the squatters, or turn off necessities such as hot water. They are forced to pay for the upkeep of the homes while squatters, many of whom are illegal immigrants, get to live in them for free.

“ And yet I’d bet the Republican vote this fall won’t increase by more than 10%, if that.‘

When a place (city, state, nation) descends into corruption, madness, perversion and suicidal insanity, there is nothing that will stop its descent until it collapses into a heap of useless, functionless, dystopian rubble.

There are many, many such places on this continent right now racing at break-neck speed down that particular slope. The end result will not be particularly “livable.”

“ Do you really think they would let a “landlord” out without bail?”

No, in American cities they save that for murderers.

The nearly all Dem voting NYC public has been subjected to violent criminals out on bail or without bail, others released early and still others not apprehended due to rules having to be followed by police. (Example: Police cannot question an illegal alien about their true name and status in a sanctuary city.)

And now these squatter stories are enraging to them. Will they reform?

You simply don’t pay the utilities in a passive way...let the utilities themselves shut them off. The judges can try to jail the home owner but in the end its Con Ed and the local water departments that have to shut off the utilities...not the homeowner. Also, since they have no bail laws...they have to let the home owners out of jail.

Oh NYC’s gonna get real messy real quick!

Total insanity and a violation of the 3rd Amendment

How quaint, some people still think what the constitution says still matters.

There’s creative and legal ways to deal with this.

Unfortunately legal often gets defeated illegally, sort of like a woman showing a copy of the restraining order to her husband as he kills her.

it could be argued it is an illegal taking.

Sad day when you have to argue a point that is so obvious that arguing it is an insult to intelligence.

I’m no psychic, but I’m getting an impression there are going to be shootings very soon.

Yep those squatters are only going to tolerate the harassment for so long then they will react.

The owners don’t have to turn off the power and water. Just stop paying it.

That’s sweet to think that is how government still works. The eviction moratorium was an illegal taking. Yet nothing was done and landlords still haven’t been compensated. And now they are proposing a permanent Winter Eviction moratorium.

So turning off the power is bad. What about just torching the place? Is that ok?
