FORT LAUDERDALE, FL—Governor Ron DeSantis is worried that if marijuana (pot) is legalized in Florida, the whole Sunshine State will smell like pot.
“It’s basically a license to have it anywhere you want. No time, place, and manner restrictions. This state will start to smell like marijuana in our cities and towns, it will reduce the quality of life,” DeSantis said at a Thursday press conference in Fort Lauderdale.
The Florida Supreme Court voted Monday in a 5-2 decision to allow recreational marijuana on the November general election ballot. The measure—Amendment 3—would legalize recreational use for adults 21 and over and allow companies that already grow and sell medical marijuana to sell it to these adults.
60 percent of voters must vote "yes" on the measure to enshrine it in the state constitution.
He turned to Amendment 4, another ballot initiative that would protect abortion rights until fetal viability. "Once voters figure out how radical both of those are...they are going to fail," he said.

But as others have mentioned and despite not yet being fully legal, the smell of pot has become pervasive in almost every public place. Gym, gas stations, parking lots, restaurants, grocery stores, indoor and open air concerts, at the beach....
Gambling is illegal in California except on Indian reservations. Which US a surprise to me.
He’s not kidding - in California, in San Francisco in particular, where pot is legal, I smell it EVERYWHERE.
I hate the smell and am allergic to smoke so it is miserable - just like large areas of the city.
Yup, take drugs and kill babies. Leftist issues that destroy the soul and bodies of God’s creation.
Ditto California...
NYC as well. I see construction workers walking out of head shops smoking huge joints and drivers everywhere smoking this crap as well. The smell is everywhere in the City.
Marijuana and abortion need to be on a separate election. It would be worth the cost to keep them off major election ballots.
Well, Fairbanks does since legalization. I hate driving around town anymore. Skunk ass pretty much everywhere you go.
This part of Florida already reeks of pot. Some people stink of it so much that by just walking into a store they can make you want to vomit from 5 aisles away. It is as bad as that “cat lady” cat piss odor but much more common.
That is just sad, but it ain’t the flavor that I dislike it’s the smell of a skunk just hit by a car.
It’s a good start, but New Yorkers won’t feel at home until there’s the smell of urine as well.
IIRC, the cheese strains were kind of a fluke of breeding, but it avoided the tell-tale skunk odor, so it became popular with clandestine growers.
I was walking through the woods a few weeks back, and caught a whiff. A couple of homeless folks sitting on a log, smoking out. I actually smelled a skunk up there a couple of months back. That’d never happened before.
Florida already smells like meatballs
Similar deal here. My first instinct is libertarian but having a decent society is important.
Create a sandalwood odor so they can save money on incense or sprays. I said it was sad because I am originally from Wisconsin. I love cheese, but not always the smell. With my luck, they would create one that smelt like Limburger cheese.
marijuana destroys people’s lives. I have relatives and have seen others badly affected by it. They use marijuana and drink and will take other drugs.
Perhaps what bothers me most is that the experiences of other states with legal weed is hardly reported in the FL press.
Despite the widespread ignorance, I’m convinced the referendum will pass.
