The editor of The Plain Dealer in Cleveland told readers that critical coverage of Donald Trump was necessary despite their objections.
“The north star here is truth,” Chris Quinn wrote in a letter from the editor on Saturday. “We tell the truth, even when it offends some of the people who pay us for information.”
“The truth is that Donald Trump undermined faith in our elections in his false bid to retain the presidency,” he continued. “He sparked an insurrection intended to overthrow our government and keep himself in power. No president in our history has done worse. This is not subjective. We all saw it.”
Quinn expressed sympathy with Trump fans who were frustrated that their local news source does not “recognize what they see in [Trump].” But that won’t stop the coverage. “The facts involving Trump are crystal clear, and as news people, we cannot pretend otherwise, as unpopular as that might be with a segment of our readers,” he wrote. “There aren’t two sides to facts. People who say the earth is flat don’t get space on our platforms. If that offends them, so be it.”
Quinn wrote that President Joe Biden’s “mindset” and “success” were up for debate but cited the “false equivalency” by some readers who equate him to Trump.

Chris Quinn wouldn’t know an insurrection if it bit him in the ass.
There is absolutely no proof Trump sparked any insurrection.
There isn’t even proof an “insurrection” was attempted by anyone, as no weapons were even used and nothing was happening in the Senate when the Capitol Police gently escorted people into the building.
Quinn has no idea what truth is, and is not the arbiter of it either.
I haven't read papers like his in a couple of decades. It's great to be free of the kind of propagandist swill that his fishwrap puts out to try to gaslight patriotic Americans.

What happened was neither an insurrection nor a riot.

Truth? There was no insurrection. There was no overthrow, or any attempt thereof.
The truth would not offend nearly so much as this hyperbolic screed does. This is gaslighting, plain and simple. The “truth” that is assumed here lacks support or any factual assertions that make it even respectable.
Joe Biden did not get any “81 million” votes from living, breathing persons. The bulk of mail-in ballots were submitted by persons other than the addressee, or were harvested and the “undesirable” votes were discarded or a “properly marked” one was substituted. Huge numbers of ineligible votes were included in the final tally, even if it took days to combine them with the valid numbers.
