The Collapsed Bridge to Nowhere: Francis Scott Key and Missing Logic; Something is amiss about the serial infrastructure fails happening all around us
American Thinker ^ | 04/02/2024 | Victoria White Berger

Joe Biden is demanding, and pronto, more of our tax money to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

He wants more from us—naturally—but America needs, as its first priority, to investigate and determine if the bridge’s destruction was in fact unintended… or malicious. Much documented evidence is emerging as to the bridge “accident” being in fact, a political, and likely international, cyber-attack. Whether or not this is so, something is off-kilter about the serial infrastructure fails happening all around us. It is time for a much closer look.

As to Biden’s call for more cash, where are the trillion plus dollars obligated by Biden’s crowning achievement, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law? From the Department of Transportation website:

The law authorizes $1.2 trillion for transportation and infrastructure spending with $550 billion of that figure going toward ‘new’ investments and programs. This bipartisan law strengthens PHMSA’s safety authority and includes many provisions that will help PHMSA fulfill its mission of protecting people and the environment by advancing the safe transportation of energy and other hazardous materials [emphasis added].

(The PHMSA is the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.)

Now to March 2024, the Francis Scott Key Bridge, and hazardous materials:

Ship that hit Baltimore bridge carried tons of hazardous materials: US official

The cargo ship, MV Dali, was carrying 764 tons of hazardous materials when it crashed into the Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, a top US official has said.

Why is Biden demanding, immediately, new money to cover the Baltimore bridge disaster, when insurers have not yet submitted determinations as to eligible underwritten costs to rebuild?

A good bet is more federal fraud. The real answer is Joe Biden’s graft and essential dishonesty.

not a mystery at all

this happens EVERYWHERE socialism takes hold.

socialists and communists TAKE over from what capitalists built and bled for. But they are so busy giving away money to stay in power that they always fail to maintain the infrastructure they originally stole. Eventually (it takes a few decades) that infrastructure starts to fail at which point the political system collapses.

“and the evidence of that cyber attack was lost in yet another cyber attack.”

and the evidence for that final cyber attack was destroyed when a large tanker hit a bridge.

The colleague interviewed in the article said “they were good citizens.” While he doesn’t say the country they were citizens of, I think it implies naturalized Americans.

I’ve come to know a few hispanics in the Baltimore area. While an overwhelming number are illegals, there’s many who are now great American citizens. I hope that’s the case with these victims.

A couple have lived here nearly 20 years.

BTW, Brawner is a large road contractor with projects all over Maryland and probably other states.

The only thing amiss is the money. They’ve been taxing to replace infrastructure, as part of governing responsibility, but they spent the money on other priorities.

No one brings up the most obvious cause? The good Lord is removing his hand of “ protection “….and why wouldn’t he?

Biblical history reveals this over and over again….there is a BIG difference with a nation’s population not observing God’s laws and practicing abominations, but the nation that codifies into law these abominations ( the US- in fact the collective West) will suffer immensely….as we are beginning to witness.

I get why Biden isn’t waiting for the insurance companies. Insurance companies take FOREVER. When my roof blew off it took 6 weeks for the insurance company to finally say “yeah here’s the money”. Only 3 days for the adjuster to come out the rest was just bureaucratic churn. For something in the billions, probably involving multiple insurance companies, that could be years. It’s an important port, we can’t just let it sit there while insurance companies move paper around. There’s the chance of getting money out of the insurance companies eventually and “paying back” the fed. But don’t wait for insurance.

Who writes stuff like this?

And why is a usually reputable site like American Thinker publishing it?

“Hazardous” includes a huge spectrum of “hazards,” many of which are pretty innocuous

When I took HazMat training in the '90s, we learned the Coca-Cola syrup was hazardous material, because of the phosphoric acid in it. (That phosphoric acid BTW is why Coke strips rust off steel.)

Not hard to figure out.

When you have decades of neglect, stuff fails.

It won’t be called the Francis Scott Key Bridge for much longer.

"It will be renamed the Brandon Bridge. It falls down."

LOL!! Good one. My thought is they will either name it after Obama, or John Lewis, who was the useless Congressional Rep. for Baltimore for years until he croaked.

Elon Musk asked why the bridge can't just be "repaired," since nearly all of the steel merely fell into the water and only one segment joint was destroyed by the ship's impact.

He was roundly ridiculed and attacked for the question. Apparently he doesn't understand how thoroughly corrupt the U.S. is, and even more so Baltimore. Silly immigrant doesn't get that every disaster is an opportunity for a fresh, multi-billion $ "request for proposal" with politically-connected contractors landing the cash, and going 2-5x over budget and time by completion, with 10-20% racial kickbacks for the chocolate city.

Exactly. It’s loaded language designed to get a rise out of people rather than tell them the truth.

Of course, we’re also dealing with journalists, who Mark Twain described as “a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoemaking.”

The bridge can’t be repaired because that open-span continuous truss design is considered outdated and not sufficiently safe anymore.

It could be the Marian Barry Bridge. There are cracks in it.
