A Republican candidate for governor of Utah has linked diversity, equity, and inclusion to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.
The bridge collapsed early Tuesday after the cargo ship Dali drifted into a bridge support.
Among the reactions that looked past the immediate cause, state Rep. Phil Lyman appeared to indicate that the makeup of the commissioners for the Port of Baltimore was a factor in the incident.
Lyman is challenging Gov. Spencer Cox for the Republican nomination...
This is what happens when you have Governors who prioritize diversity over the wellbeing and security of citizens,” Lyman said
...
DEI = DIE
...
commissioner Karenthia A. Barber, who is black, “knows nothing about Ports, but she is a ‘diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) auditor and consultant.
...
Lyman was not alone in linking DEI to the collapse.
“DEI did this,” former Florida Republican state Rep. Anthony Sabatini
...
the last inspection of the bridge took place in May 2022. At the time, the bridge scored a grade of six out of nine, which is passing but is considered “fair.”
The bridge was rated “fair” since 2008.

I wondered if the boat was being navigated by the ships crew or a port pilot.
chinks
The ship was from a foreign country so of course, US political correctness had everything to do with it losing power and running into a column of the bridge. The same ship has been involved in other incidents hitting structures in other countries so apparently we were to blame there also. If we ever want to be taken seriously, knock off the idiotic theories..
“drifted into a bridge support.”
DRIFTED INTO?
Have you not seen the 8x speed video?
The ship made an almost impossible turn right into the bridge support.
NO ACCIDENT!
Just turn all the lights off and on a few times and claim a power failure.
When a ship loses its ability to steer, what direction does it go? The exact same direction it WAS going! It doesn’t make a hard (almost impossible) 90 degree turn.
The 9/11 planes. Did they hit their targets just any old where? Strategic, yes.
Which bridge support and where exactly? Oh, just where the ENTIRE BRIDGE would collapse.
C’mon man, wake up.
That is what tugboats are for. Did the DEI Queen cancel the tugboats because they didn’t have enough diversity in the tugboat crew?
“Knee-jerk response.”
Doesn’t matter - to quote Rush: “The aggressor sets the rules”, and the Leftists ALWAYS accuse Republicans of bad things without any evidence. We need to learn to play at THEIR LEVEL, and stop trying to ‘take the high road’ and set ‘a new tone’, as that only leads to defeat after defeat.
It’s time we do the same, and in this case, we BEAT IT INTO EVERYONE’s head whenever it may be the case, as in this case, where it was OBVIOUS that barriers were need to protect the bridge supports, but the DEIs likely vetoed them.
This country was NOT BUILT with DEI, and it can ONLY be sustained without DEI. The South African electrical grid is showing the world what DEI leads to in a country not built by DEI.
“the last inspection of the bridge took place in May 2022.”
I’d love to know the names of the inspectors, and see pictures of them. AA/DEI?
The most likely cause is the owners of the shop skimping on maintenance.
I don’t know what the Port Authority could or should have done to correct the operation of the ship that lost propulsion while entering the harbor nor do I know the makeup of the Port Authority Board, but my first reaction was to remember the Levee Board in New Orleans pre-Katrina. As I recall, the Board in NOLA had notoriously failed to maintain the levees, choosing to spend much of the monies intended for that purpose on lavish Board meetings in exotic, Caribbean locations.
I wonder if the responsibility for protecting the structure of the bridge falls into this category?
Time will tell.
Or not.
I hate DEI initiatives as much as anybody but those Rs that are calling out DEI for this sound like idiots and need to find something else to tweet about.
Just because you can say something doesn’t mean you should.
“Even if the Port Director is a DEI appointee and knows nothing about ports and shipping”
In Texas our governor and other conservatives got the crap beaten out of them by the Left for appointing (apparently) non-qualified people to ERCOT (electricity operator). Were they responsible for the deadly blackout 3 years ago? Maybe, maybe not (after all, it was a record cold snap and load up on wind power was certainly not their idea) - but the Left sure as hell blamed them, ANYWAY.
It didn’t make a 90 degree turn.
NOT DEI, but hatred for America. TERROR.
Attacking our infrastructure to bring down our economy.
All part of the plan. Border invasion, climate change, societal breakdown.
“I wonder if the responsibility for protecting the structure of the bridge falls into this category?”
...Blame the stationary object?
The Left FINALLY gave us a term for all of the crap they’re doing, and we need to hammer it home, RELENTLESSLY, regardless of how much it applies to a particular situation, as we’re unlikely to be told the truth when DEI is the primary cause.

I agree with the statement above.
That bridge went up in the 70s.
Three was no DEI then, was there.
No DEI in the 80s, 90s, Oughties, which kept MD from maintaining/retrofitting it.
DEI is an excuse.
Deep State is the cause.
With no large, multiple concrete islands protecting the bridge supports - the Tampa, Florida bridge was hit and taken down.. ~ 35 years ago.
The second Tampa bridge then had many large concrete islands installed to protect the bridge ~ 35 years ago.
-2- Should have used tugboats until past the Baltimore bridge if they refuse to build protective islands in Baltimore.
“”We all dislike all this DEI business, but who knows if it had anything to do with this.””
If anyone can tie the malfunction of the ship’s power to DEI, then they’ll have a case but that would be stretching it. Can’t we determine it’s a clear case of MALFUNCTION? It could be the fault of a affirmative action employee to keep the engines running in tip top shape and failed. There you go...
