CNN contributor Bob Costas shared a brutal analysis of former President Donald Trump in a rant on the network on Saturday.
Costas was asked to share his thoughts on Trump while appearing on Smerconish. His subsequent rant was not limited to just the former president, but also his fans.
“He is by far the most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history. He‘s only become more disgraceful since 2016, and since 2020 he has a bubbling cauldron of loathsome traits,” Costas said of Trump. “You have to be in the throes of some sort of toxic delusion in a toxic cult to believe that Donald Trump has ever been, in any sense, emotionally, psychologically, intellectually, or ethically fit to be president of the United States. But his supporters are locked in on that.”
The political analysis is a unique glimpse into the Emmy-winning sportscaster, who is currently contracted with TBS as a play-by-play baseball announcer, and HBO Sports with a quarterly interview series. Despite his strong opinion of Trump, he acknowledged that President Joe Biden does not have a “cult” following. Costas seemed discouraging of Biden running a second time, as Biden had signaled he would be a one-term president during his first campaign.
“And at best, he can squeak by Trump. That‘s at best,” Costas said of Biden. “Or, he could lose to Trump and subject the nation to four more years of this kind of ongoing insanity. Or if he squeaked by, it’s very likely that he cannot complete his second term. He’ll be 86 at the end of it.”
Trump is fresh off from winning the South Carolina Republican Primary on Saturday. Biden also swept the Democratic Primary weeks ago, to a smaller voter turnout.
Good point. Like Tucker Carlson he is a CNN contributor.
Gosh, I really miss those days with the big C band dish backhauls. Every last talking head has one of those moments.
I remember watching a divisional football game once hearing the producer, spotter, director and talking head laying out exactly what the talking head was going to say after the time out, sure enough, when they went “live” the broadcast was verboten to what I had just heard.
Makeup redo’s were common too like you said, what a crazy business.
Bob Costas must not miss Trumps years of lower prices on food and gas and the no wars.
Wasn’t he Epstein’s official island greeter? Deplane, boss, deplane!!!
What is bob’s deal?
Anything to get some attention.
Any admiration i may have had for him is gone.
Hey bob,
F-you.
Bob Costas ie a whore but worse than that he was a crappy announcer.
The reason he was crap? It was always how he couched his words carefully, to not describe the action on the field but to bring attention to his sorry ass!
Costas was never in the league of Red Barber, Vince Scully or Mel Allen.
BOB HASNT REALIZED THAT HE IS IRRELAVANT
He says 45 isn’t “fit” to be president. That’s one hell of a tired argument. “Fit” means accepting any globalist premise you can imagine. Like pretending that the 2020 election was totally fine.
For most sports:
Football I limit to a few college rivalries, MUTE. For baseball and Hockey, always. unless a player is being interviewed, “know what I’m sayin’?”
Basketbsll, who watches “Hoops?
Blast Costas into phantom zone, give him no respite, attack his family too, like the left does to Trump and conservatives. Make him rue the day he opened his pathetic loser mouth!
The new rules are in effect!
“Every time a 1%-er like Costas goes on about, “The country can’t survive another term of Donald Trump”, it simply demonstrates the self-centered bubble of privilege in which they live.... Their insular lifestyle allows them to avoid the world in which their audience lives - avoid the crime, and the transformation of their communities by illegals.”

Very fine insights there, mbrfl. Yes, there IS a strong connection between sports and the working class. So after all these decades, we learn Costas is NOT attuned to his true audience. Rather than mingle with fans, he’s been hiding in the high class stadium suites eating caviar and sipping champagne with the Bushie-tailed class.
>>”...there IS a strong connection between sports and the working class. So after all these decades, we learn Costas is NOT attuned to his true audience.”
True, and it’s strange how often we see that happening in the entertainment and sports world. Bruce Springsteen comes to mind when talking about someone whose politic beliefs are so antithetical to the interests of his audience. I don’t know if they start out that way or just let things go to their head over time.
Some years ago, I was in Dallas for a Sunday night football game and we went to a restaurant the evening before the game and just happened to seat at a table next to the Bob Costas and the NBC’s Sunday Night Football group.
That little fart was an unbelievable arrogant asshole. The rest of the group, including Chris Collinsworth, seemed very nice but I could tell they all hated Costas. I really didn’t know anything about him until that night and I learned to hate him as bad as they did,
Well, he did limited himself to “modern presidential history” , but he is still an ignoramus.
-Like Tucker Carlson he is a CNN contributor.-
Nonsense. Don’t carried away, it has been twenty years since he worked for CNN. That is where he got his start.
he’s trying to out do Rick Reilly and Bill Simmons!!!!!
I wish I could pull up threads from Free Republic's first 20 years. Tucker Carlson was absolutely despised around here. He was considered a milquetoast, self-hating, collaborationist.
He ain’t no Howard Cosell.
LOL!
He looks how you would expect somebody consumed with hate to look.
