LaPierre and an NRA executive must pay a combined $6.35 million, the NY AG said.
After five days of deliberations, a jury in New York on Friday held the National Rifle Association liable for financial mismanagement and found that Wayne LaPierre, the group's former CEO, corruptly ran the nation's most prominent gun rights group.
The jury determined that LaPierre's violation of his duties cost the NRA $5.4 million, though he already repaid more than $1 million to the organization.
LaPierre, staring forward with his hands clasped in his lap, sat in the first row of the gallery while the jury read the verdict.
The New York Attorney General's Office sued the NRA and its senior management in 2020, claiming they misappropriated millions of dollars to fund personal benefits -- including private jets, family vacations and luxury goods. The accusations came at the end of a three-year investigation into the NRA, which is registered in New York as a nonprofit charitable corporation.

The NRA should’ve left New York decades ago. This is what happens when you’re not headquartered in Texas or Florida.
Probably not. But the NRA did not sue him. The attorney general of New York on an anti-gun jihad targeted the NRA for harassment, and hopefully bankruptcy.
This is targeted political persecution.
Trump, the pillow guy, and the NRA.
“be able to vote” and buy what Democrats call assault rifles
Who does the money get paid to, the NRA or the government cabal?
Let's watch the leftists pick off our people one at a time or at least drown them in 'lawfare' tactics i.e. Donald J. Trump enough to eliminate them from opposition. Who's next? Elon Musk? You can bet the list is comprised of 'several' Americans who 'don't vote or act the right way.
And what business does NY have in this anyway?? NRA is not headquartered there. They haven't been affiliated with NY since 1897. It's not even in NY's jurisdication.
But you all go ahead and celebrate and whine about LaPierre and how you detest him. As for me, I always knew where he stood and that was with the Constitution and by extension, me.
Name one union that Dosent spend big money on bone head crap.
Oh, I forgot, those are left leaning unions that give big $$$$$ to dems, so those unions are protected.
If evidence of mismanagement is needed, look no farther than the decision to headquarter the NRA in NY, one of the most thoroughly corrupt and anti-gun states in the union. Why didn’t they leave years ago? Did proximity to suits from Barney’s figure in?
That's the important question!
Never happens. The GOPe Dopes always say “we’re not going to contribute to this kind of thing, we’re going to uphold the rule of law and reach across the isle.” And then they lose because they are weak and feckless.
GOA is the way.
I quit NRA years ago because of LaPierre.
Members like me left when nothing was done to replace him.
If you are a conservative, believer in the Bill of Rights, and love the United States and are considering having a business in New York…you need to RUN, not walk, and find another state to locate!
We need a border wall around New York to separate it from the U.S.
There are 27 Republican Attorney’s General in the U.S. Most must be nutless because I’ve never heard of more than a very few lawsuits being filed against lefties by them.
Why not sue Soros? Why not sue the Sierra Club, Southern Poverty Law Center, BLM, Antifa and on and on endlessly?
The answer is that these bastards are gutless and it might interfere with their T time if they had a few hot lawsuits going on.
That occurred to a guy named John Carpenter. He just got the year wrong.
You are wrong on this issue.
I’ve been following the trial pretty closely. When Mr. LaPierre began to assume the role of the public face of the NRA once Charlton Heston was diagnosed with dementia, the NRA ad agency wanted him to dress a certain way and sent him to the store in LA to buy suits. This was in 2000-2004. Probably a total of $45k. The ad agency buried this expense in production costs. Once Mr. LaPierre learned about it, he reimbursed the NRA. With interest, he paid around $200k for $45k worth of old suits.
And, it's the organization that should have sued him. This should completely been a civil matter. The state shouldn't have been involved unless he violated the state's criminal code.
Not surprised to see the usual suspect Zeepers here siding with Democrats and corrupt leftists like Letitia James.
And, never mind, most members of congress live this lavishly at taxpayer expense or they sell their votes to special interests and donors that make them rich.
Excellent points.
There is certainly enough fraud and felony among the malevolent actors you mentioned to easily obtain indictments and even convictions with substantial penalties and long custodial sentences.
But republican AGs are far too timid, or compromised, to pursue any such endeavors.
Granted, he was low hanging fruit, but no one with a brain sees this as anything but an assault upon the NRA
