Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that six Republicans are on his shortlist for a potential running mate and vice president at a town hall on Monday.
In his first hint at who could be his Vice President if he wins the election in November, Trump's list included two former opponents and an ex-Democrat.
Trump, 77, confirmed Florida Governor and one-time foil Ron DeSantis, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina are all among the ex-rivals being considered.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Florida Republican Byron Donalds, and former Democrat Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard are on his shortlist.
A DailyMail.com poll in New Hampshire found Ramasmway is the top choice to be running mate, followed by Scott in second and Tucker Carlson and Ben Carson in joint third.
'All of those people are good. They're all solid,' Trump told Laura Ingraham Monday night.
Trump said, however, that deciding on a running mate might not be the biggest decision of his campaign.
'The one thing that always surprises me is that the VP choice always has no impact,' he said.
Trump noted that 2008 Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin did have an enormous impact, but faced attacks unlike anyone ever had before.
He then attempted to make his case for what qualities he felt his running mate should bring to the ticket.
'It's a very important position. You would like to get somebody who could help you from the voters' standpoint,' Trump said - but noted he wanted someone with 'common sense.'
DeSantis became a target of Trump's notorious mockery during the primary, though the Florida governor dropped out and endorsed him.
Gabbard, who served several terms in the House of Representatives and ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat, has since left the party ..

Tulsi G is overrated.
I think you’re right. Trump rarely names people he won’t consider. If someone offers up a name, he’ll usually be diplomatic and say that he would consider picking them.
The only one on that list that I’d be O.K. with would be Carson, although I think there are better options. If Trump picks any of the others mentioned, I’ll be disappointed. I’ll still vote for him but I’ll be disappointed.
Lots of die hard trumpets on X still trashing and insulting RDS supporters.
“Kari Lake but we need her as a Governor!”
She is currently running for the Senate.
Ben Carson or Greg Abbott. Sarah Huckabee Sanders in a few cycles, after she proves herself as a governor.
That sounds like the sort of people Laura Ingraham would recommend. That alone should make Trump skeptical.
Agree.
Vivek says everything you want to hear...
He’s selling vaporware.
He is the best pick, IMO.
Keri is running for Senate.
Trump better be VERY careful who he picks as Veep. Oliver Stone’s “JFK” is probably fiction, but the elites could assassinate Trump *for real* and get us into the Ukraine war if his successor is a neocon. Just like many people think the military industrial complex murdered JFK so they could get Johnson in power and get us into the Vietnam war...
Please stop posting this nonsense. In the spring of 2020, DeSantis was as bad as the worst Democrat Nazis from New York, New Jersey and California when it came to COVID lockdowns and restrictions.
Lee Zeldin
Mike Flynn
Those who would not be picked need to be picked for agency heads to clean out the scum and straighten them out
Scott’s closeness to Trump’s buddy Graham is exactly why he might get the nod
“ Lots of die hard trumpets on X still trashing and insulting RDS supporters.”

True and I hate to see that. DeSantis has actually GOVERNED in the most MAGA way of any governor, IMHO.
I think it will be none of the above. Who in a million years would have even guessed Mike Pence in 2016. It’s probably someone we are not even thinking about again. That’s how Trump rolls.
