Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that six Republicans are on his shortlist for a potential running mate and vice president at a town hall on Monday.
In his first hint at who could be his Vice President if he wins the election in November, Trump's list included two former opponents and an ex-Democrat.
Trump, 77, confirmed Florida Governor and one-time foil Ron DeSantis, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina are all among the ex-rivals being considered.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Florida Republican Byron Donalds, and former Democrat Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard are on his shortlist.
A DailyMail.com poll in New Hampshire found Ramasmway is the top choice to be running mate, followed by Scott in second and Tucker Carlson and Ben Carson in joint third.
'All of those people are good. They're all solid,' Trump told Laura Ingraham Monday night.
Trump said, however, that deciding on a running mate might not be the biggest decision of his campaign.
'The one thing that always surprises me is that the VP choice always has no impact,' he said.
Trump noted that 2008 Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin did have an enormous impact, but faced attacks unlike anyone ever had before.
He then attempted to make his case for what qualities he felt his running mate should bring to the ticket.
'It's a very important position. You would like to get somebody who could help you from the voters' standpoint,' Trump said - but noted he wanted someone with 'common sense.'
DeSantis became a target of Trump's notorious mockery during the primary, though the Florida governor dropped out and endorsed him.
Gabbard, who served several terms in the House of Representatives and ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat, has since left the party ..

I want him to pick RFK Jr.
>> I’m a diehard TRUMPER and I think DeSantis would be best. Tulsi would be by far the worst
I’m inclined to agree with the above.
He governs very well. Nobody’s perfect. No one was better on covid and that’s all about freedom baby.
Vivek is not eligible...
His parents were not American citizens when he was born...
Is that so, in the event your 80-year old President doesn’t make it to the end of his term, we have a certified left wing look as President of The United States and head of a Republican administration? What could go wrong!
Given the madness of the electoral season already, I kind of welcome the idea solely because of the chaos it would incur. I kind of doubt Trump would do it, but he's surprised me before.
Well if he picks DeSantis, he’d better go read The Snake to himself.
rue, but DeSantis would be the best pick IMO. Unifies the to more moderate elements of the GOP.
I hope Donald goes with Ron DeSantis.
Personally, I think DeSantis should finish out his term as governor. He’s done an amazing job with Florida, particularly shining during the Covid hysteria.
Personally, I like Kristi Noem and Tim Scott as possible pics, however, I’m still not sold on any of them. Definitely don’t want Tulsi Gabbard however, I feel she may have some place in a future Trump administration.

Nope, I don’t think it will be any of them. I think it’s a head-fake to throw the idiot sector, the MSM off.
Agree. DeSantis should be planning an excellent succession of persons to his leadership in Florida. Maybe he is?
There are two lists. DeSantis is on the public list he is trying to give a little push and some publicity to, not the real list of names he is considering privately. DeSantis can’t be the VP because you can’t have two candidates from the same state. And no, Donald Trump is not moving to another state and no, Donald Trump is not going to give up FL electoral votes. Forget it.
Nothing has been learned.
From where is THAT rule??
I’d like to see Ramaswamy in the administration, but not as VP. He needs to be in a domestic policymaking or communications position. De Santis should remain in the Florida statehouse, where he is most effective. No on Noem and Gabbard.
Big NO to Tulsi Gabbard. No to Tim Scott. I’d be okay with any of the others.
