Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that six Republicans are on his shortlist for a potential running mate and vice president at a town hall on Monday.
In his first hint at who could be his Vice President if he wins the election in November, Trump's list included two former opponents and an ex-Democrat.
Trump, 77, confirmed Florida Governor and one-time foil Ron DeSantis, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina are all among the ex-rivals being considered.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Florida Republican Byron Donalds, and former Democrat Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard are on his shortlist.
A DailyMail.com poll in New Hampshire found Ramasmway is the top choice to be running mate, followed by Scott in second and Tucker Carlson and Ben Carson in joint third.
'All of those people are good. They're all solid,' Trump told Laura Ingraham Monday night.
Trump said, however, that deciding on a running mate might not be the biggest decision of his campaign.
'The one thing that always surprises me is that the VP choice always has no impact,' he said.
Trump noted that 2008 Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin did have an enormous impact, but faced attacks unlike anyone ever had before.
He then attempted to make his case for what qualities he felt his running mate should bring to the ticket.
'It's a very important position. You would like to get somebody who could help you from the voters' standpoint,' Trump said - but noted he wanted someone with 'common sense.'
DeSantis became a target of Trump's notorious mockery during the primary, though the Florida governor dropped out and endorsed him.
Gabbard, who served several terms in the House of Representatives and ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat, has since left the party ..

Ron DeSantis is NOT Mike Pence and is nothing like him.
Trump needs to stay alive — by picking a VP who is as feared by the left as he is.
In light of your suggestion and the proposed list, that would mean DeSantis is the choice
He pointed to Tim Scott and said he would make a great VP during the interview. I don’t agree with that. He does seem to like weak running mates.
Most Prez candidates don’t want their vp candidate to outshine them. Pence was the ultimate expression in that desired colorlessness.!
He said a while ago that he knows who the pick will be.
It will be Kristi Noem.
1. A very smart WOMAN
2. Some would say attractive
3. A current popular governor
4. Clean and articulate
5. Loyal Trump supporter from Jump Street
6. Wants/would accept the job
7. Relatively young (52)
8. Eligible, natural born citizen, born in South Dakota USA,
to TWO citizen parents both born in South Dakota USA
9. Pro life
10. “In South Dakota, only girls can play in girls’ sports”
11. “Supports Amendment to prevent same sex marriage”
12. “Teach true, honest history not radical Critical Race Theory.”
13. “Chinese Communist Party is our greatest external challenge”
14. “We’re able to market our state as a 2nd Amendment haven.”
15. “No unconstitutional COVID lockdowns; no mask mandates.”
16. “First governor to send National Guard to southern border”
Just to list a few attributes.
Trump/Carlson
Yes and not just a womyn or minority pick.
Not a horrible choice, better than Gabbard.
Excellent choice.
Like it or not, but the only ones on that list that might move the needle in picking up additional voters is Vivek or Gabbard.
What State will Trump make his home? Or would DeSantis resign as Governor and move out if Florida?
PS I hope nobody on FR would think its ok to seriously think about having 2 Florida residents on the ticket

Of course not. There’s always a solution. Chaney and Bush avoided the problem with them both being Texas residents.

NO.HE’S.NOT! 🙄
In my opinion, Byron Donalds is far and away the best choice for Trump. He would be the strongest president should something happen to Trump. He is highly intelligent, articulate, knowledgeable and is strong. He would take no BS and proceed with the same vigor as Trump.
First, Ron DeSantis is out simply because the VP and president cannot reside in the same state. I don’t see either one moving.
Also, politically, you need to select a VP running mate that will help you with getting a sector of votes that you might otherwise not get. Like Tim Scott would tend to draw black voters but Kristi Noem and Tulsi /Gabbard would tend to draw women voters. Politically, Ron does nothing for the ticket. Vivek might draw POC, but I don’t see it.
Id like to see Tulsi over the VA...
Shed be good to the veterans...
great idea, or even in the defense dept.
There too
But we do need someone very good at the VA...
