Denver Mayor to Residents Upset with Cuts Due to Migrant Influx: We Have ‘Value of Being’ ‘Welcoming’
Breitbart ^ | Ian hatchett

Posted on 02/16/2024 7:24:41 PM PST by ChicagoConservative27

During an interview aired on Friday’s broadcast of NPR’s “Morning Edition,” Denver Mayor Mike Johnston responded to a question on Denver residents who are frustrated that the city is cutting services due to budget shortfalls caused by the influx of migrants in the city by stating that “The dilemma is when you have values on both sides and you have to manage those values. We have a value of being a welcoming, compassionate city.” And there are some cuts to migrant services.

Johnston said, “We’ve asked every agency in the city to take a look at what they could do to make what is about a 15% cut to their budget across the city. And those agencies are all presenting options to us this week. We started the first set of actions this week, which includes reducing the hours in our rec centers, closing rec centers for some days, and will involve closing some of our DMV sites on certain days and weeks. And so, we are having to make some of these hard decisions, and we’ll also have to reduce some of the level and length of services we can provide to migrants. We’ve had more than 40,000 migrants arrive in our city over the last year, more than any other city in America per capita, and we have very successfully integrated them. To do that well just requires resources, and it will be impossible for us to do that at this scale going forward without any federal help.”

“Value of Being”

Being what?

Overrun?

Foster parents of human cowbirds??

Brown-headed cowbirds are brood parasites;

.
.
.

Following the constantly roaming herds, cowbirds couldn’t expend the time for nesting, but rather laid their eggs in host nests as they moved along, leaving host parents to raise their eggs to adulthood. As people began to disperse across North America, clearing forests and expanding domesticated livestock herds and agricultural production, the cowbird range expanded also. Nest parasitism enabled brown-headed cowbirds to quickly establish new populations and expand their distribution across the country.

Impacts

Brown-headed cowbirds parasitize the nests of more than 220 bird species in their range. Each cowbird can lay up to 30 eggs per season and usually lay 1 or 2 (or occasionally more) eggs in each host nest. When parasitizing nests, they often remove the egg(s) of the host bird. Brown-headed cowbird chicks usually hatch sooner than the host chicks, are larger, and develop faster. Their larger size and persistent behavior gains them more care from the host parents. Nest parasitism lowers the reproductive success of host birds and has led to population declines in several bird species. In California, the riparian songbirds least Bell’s vireo (Vireo bellii pusillus) and willow flycatcher (Empidonax traillii) are listed as endangered due to loss of riparian habitat and nest parasitism by brown-headed cowbirds.

Actions Taken if Found

If you observe this species in California, please report your sighting to the CDFW Invasive Species Program, by email to Invasives@wildlife.ca.gov, or by calling (866) 440-9530.

Long established European cities had walls around them to keep out the undesirables.

(Need I say more?)

A smart mayor would send them back over he border until such time that enough revenue was raised to accommodate them.

And a smarter mayor would just send them back over the border.

The problem is that your very first step should have been to REDUCE the Pay and Benefits for ALL Public Employee’s to pay for YOUR POLICIES. It isn’t too late to do it.

”… and we have very successfully integrated them.

If by “successfully integrated” he means that they’re swarming every street corner in the Denver metro area with squirt bottles and squeegees, then sure, they’re “integrated.” They’ve integrated themselves right into Denver’s parasite class.

Johnston seems like a younger carbon copy of John Hickenlooper, but even dumber. Hickenlooper cooked up the absurd “Denver’s Road Home” program, which was going to “end homelessness in 10 years”, but instead wasted $50 million and only increased the number of derelicts on the street. Johnston seems driven to beat Hickenlooper in the futility Olympics.

I don’t live in Denver proper, but I have lived in the suburbs since 1978. This was once a beautiful, wonderful, exceptionally clean place, but the incoming hordes of California locusts have utterly destroyed it and the state as a whole. It’s now just another leftist cesspool, and it gets worse every day.

this is nothing but back to ‘taxation without representation’. Those tax dollars aren’t the property of politicians that can just decide what do to with them as they wish. Shutting down or reducing services due to diverting resources to people that shouldn’t be here?

Why should anyone pay their taxes then? The politicians aren’t asking, they’re dictating. People voted on what those taxes go toward.

We’re living in an ago of ‘micro-tyrants’ at the local level. The same thing is happening across Europe. Nobody is asking the people about the migrant situation and representing their wishes - it’s just globalists dictating.

NOW ONE PERSON IS DECIDING “THE VALUES” FOR AN ENTIRE POPULATION OF A MAJOR USA CITY

It has been happening for a while, for us it was mayor Gavin Newsome in San Francisco in Feb of 2004 when he allowed gays to marry, he determined those values for the entire nation.

--- "The government is functionally bankrupt. So, what's the problem? They've been there for a while. If you can't pay the debt back, anyway, and you're not actually spending real money, just print some more and keep going. /sarcasm

Indeed. My new Monopoly board will include squares for the Weimar Republik and Zimbabwe, since someone's bound to go that route....

Exactly. If you keep printing money and you are first in line, you can end up owning the whole thing, Zimbabwe and Republik and all. It seems that the formerly perpetually bankrupt state of Argentina might have escaped with their new president. I understand each region can now issue its own money, so I suspect we will have fiscally sound productive red states with a stable currency, and we will have blue states who have a democratic imperative to provide free stuff for everyone who will have runaway inflation and a currency more worthless than the old Argentinian peso or the Zim $.

Sort of amuzing that this libertarian decided to run this public demonstration experiment to educate the world, and his own people. Of course Milton Friedman already told us all about it, but he is dead and forgotten now.

Yes, this mayor has adhered to being a “welcoming & compassionate city”....just to the wrong group of folks is all. Now,the sanctuary cities that are getting overrun can mean some of this horrendous problem spreading to the smaller populations & then it’s really going to to get messy. Now, if I am recognizing this problem at this point & what it’s going to mean in the near future should indicate that the “thinkers & doers” in the larger cities should have thought of this long ago. People who are illegally immigrating here should have had it plainly explained to them as to what they are letting themselves in for, or better yet, just to stay home & don’t be trying to ride the gravy train in America. There are many who have lived here for years that are still searching for that gravy train.

“Do a California, raise taxes.”

Every time the legislature meets they do a California.

Open up your mayoral residence to a few hundred of them. Feed them, clothe them, tuck them in for bed at night.

Ive never been to Denver. Are there a lot of lettuce farms in the city?

Was merely referencing the specious argumentation of then presidential-candidate John McCain:

John McCain: "You know I've heard that statement before. Now, my friends, I'll offer anybody here fifty dollars an hour if you'll go pick lettuce in Yuma this season and pick for the whole season. So, ok, sign up! Ok, when you sign up, you sign up, and you'll be there for the whole season, the whole season, ok, not just one day. Because you can't do it, my friend."

Regards,

Maybe...

I watched a whinny Denverite complaining that she can't do her exercises because the services were cut and the gym hours were being reduced.

In classic stupidity, when asked why she didn't go to another gym, she complained that her car would produce more CO2 and she is worried about Global Warming. LOL!!!!

You cannot fix stupid. And if you pointed out that she voted for the people who supported Denver being a sanctuary city, she'd probably get violent and scream a lot.
