Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made the shocking decision to recommend Republicans block the advancement of the Senate pro-migration border bill.
That first procedural vote was set for Wednesday. It is unknown if Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will forge ahead, although that is likely.
McConnell cited the overwhelming number of Senate Republicans planning to vote against the measure either on substance or because they wanted more time, according to Punchbowl News.
The longtime Republican leader has spoken in favor of the deal and did not express any personal hesitations about the legislation to his colleagues.
According to Punchbowl, McConnell said the political mood in the country has changed since negotiations began months ago. At that time, McConnell and Democrat leaders agreed to pair foreign aid to Ukraine, of which McConnell is the Senate’s greatest champion, with a border compromise. Democrats, although also generally in favor of aiding Ukraine’s stalemated war against Russia, used McConnell’s fervor for Ukraine aid against Republicans, dangling a proposed border compromise in exchange for aiding the European nation.
Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) touted his close work with McConnell on the deal. “I have never worked more closely with Leader McConnell on any piece of legislation as we did on this,” Schumer told reporters on Sunday.
Leaked details of the secretive deal, which McConnell’s chosen Republican lead negotiator Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) and other allies denied, were confirmed Sunday upon the bill’s release. The overwhelming opposition led to McConnell altering his plan Monday night.
Even Lankford, who continued championing the deal leading up to Monday night’s Senate Republican Conference meeting, would not say after the meeting if he would vote to move forward Wednesday on the deal he negotiated, according to the Huffington Post.

The votes are there without him, so CYA comes into play.
I was thinking about the same thing. Glad you both posted this
Since 2000 the uniparty keeps floating these terrible bills designed to ruin America, sometimes called “comprehensive immigration reform” (i.e. amnesty for millions and fund a lot of crap nobody wants and has nothing to do with securing the border) or “comprehensive border security” (i.e. let ‘em all in and give them amnesty and fund a lot of crap nobody wants and has nothing to do with securing the border). And for nearly 25 years the American people keep actually ticking them off by paying attention and saying Hell no! They just keep making them worse just to give us all a giant middle finger. Eventually one will pass and America will be done for. They want that so badly for some reason ($$$$)
That's what a decent Christian man would do anyway, after betraying the State he is supposed to be representing in Washington.
How do these RINO’s get elected?
Answering my own question, I guess constituents don’t have any other choice. Or if they do, they don’t know who the potential RINO is.
Once a sell-out Nancy-Boy octogenarian, always a sell-out
Nancy-boy octogenarian.
Just a question. Why are any Republican votes needed? If it’s for appearances then 15 or 20 GOP votes should satisfy that. I assume all the Dems will vote Aye.

This rush to get this passed NOW tells me that they know without extra ordinary measures, they know Trump is a shoe in. If they cannot gear up a felony conviction, or be positive on an election stolen again, there is only one alternative. Trump better triple the guards, employ food tasters, and have his plane guarded 24/7 with the palace guard.

He had better support HR-2 , and fund Israel 14 billion for munitions.Of not Israel will be forced to use nukes to defend itself and Armageddon would ensue.

I’m in favor of sending Israel weapons if they pay us for them.

And who is that lying sack of crap!
Mike Johnson said on Telegram that the BILL IS DEAD! He won’t advance it as it is a corrupt bill!!
SO I think McConnell knows he had better just can it now!!!
The talk to take his position away and give it to another has got to be resonating in his head also. He is a Demo in RINO clothing.
That wins Post of the Year.
IIRC until now Mitch thought the bill was not only perfect, but essential.
I’m surprised they didn’t pass it without reading it. Congress passed Obama’s bill that was supposed to control pig odors.
Doesn’t Kentucky border on Tennessee?
So it can’t possibly be the water that makes them “pukes”.
The speaker mike johnson killed this by announcing it doa in the house. Why would a rino senator further antagonize his conservative voters and spend political capital on a certain political loss, especially if he has a primary election to win this year?
There are some things to be upset with johnson about, but he gets the credit for this one.
A nice political bitch slap across the face to Haley too.
