Ford plans to hire Chinese military software supplier for EV factory in US: GOP investigators
Fox News via MSN ^ | 1/29/24 | Thomas Catenacci

Ford Motor Company is planning to contract technology and software from at least four Chinese firms that supply similar services to the Chinese government and military, and the North Korean government, according to contracts obtained by Republican investigators.

The revelations — which were released Monday by Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., the chair of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, and Energy and Commerce Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash. — are part of the GOP's ongoing joint investigation into Ford's partnership with Fujian, China-based electric vehicle (EV) battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL).

Well morons - what did you expect when you regulated the demand of EV vehicles when there’s very little EV battery production in the US or Europe?!

Considering the lack of significant demand for the product, sounds more to me like someone’s found an off ramp from this no win mandate.

Here comes full compliance with the administrations plans for kill switches they can control...

Election? No problem... Just kill all auto transportation systems... Only the Cities will end up voting in significant numbers...

Covid-2? No problem... Keep all the serfs marooned & starving at home while our rulers run amok...

Election Year Drama from Karl Rove “Emotional Wedge Issue” Republicans in Congress.

Any GOP fundraising pitch and I got three today hangs on what counts and it’s about spending more money in Ukraine.

34 trillion in debt is too much and the bucks have to stop going to Ukraine yesterday and that should be just the beginning.

I support President Donald Trump not Congressional Republicans as a group right now.

Trump will address China in the White House. Trump also worries about World War III and any Republican wanting money in Ukraine is fueling the notion of World War III.

If Ford had any real leadership, they would mostly scrap their EV plans and start making cars like the Taurus and Escort again. You know - cars that sold and worked.

Hmm... old news.

Right. I saw a glancing reference to it in a an article about GM's woes in the China markets, and that was at least six months ago.

I ran across something in Kurt Schlichter's latest novel, a hypothesis that says "the closer a company is to the government, the worse its' management becomes, and the more it needs regulatory favors and subsidies from the government".

Ford (and GM/Stellantis) are fast proving that to be correct.

We had a F.O.R.D. Escort, it didn’t work. Its only real virtue was a good paint job and it was light.

The paint job meant it looked good in the driveway; and being light meant it was easy to push.

Uncomfortable, unreliable, and poorly designed. Just an awful automobile

Ford made reliable cars until around 2005 or so. Then their reliability collapsed. I was reading about this the other day. A car guy said it’s all due to the bean counters taking over from the engineers. Profits are now put ahead of quality.

So getting software from China, just to save a buck? No surprise there.

I heard some nutty lib say the EV was safer because people couldn’t commit suicide in a garage with an EV.

Around the mid 90’s when the new Taurus came out the car magazines were going mental about how great they were.
So I talked my parents into buying one.
They got a new green Mercury Sable.
So sweet...
Turned into ti biggest POS that they ever owned.
Still give me grief over it.
Been nothing but Toyota and Honda ever since and ZERO problems.

Back in my younger days, I was at a dealership looking for a car. It was to be my first new car purchase, after a decade of driving clunkers.

A salesman took me aside. “Don’t buy any new model,” he said quietly. “Wait at least a few years for them to get the bugs out.”

Amazing, eh? A car salesman who put his customers first.

I don't understand the EV bandwagon.

Common sense and 7th grade science quickly reveals how impossible the EV market is . . . even IF they cancel 90% of we plebes desire ro drive, their 10 remaining % will kill LION battery production in a dozen years, leaving them with what? steam locomotives ?

Great idea but for one little problem: all this electronic monitoring and cloud access in vehicles is MANDATED by the FedGov. Right down to the “push button start” *feature* (that I loathe).

Then there’s the whole EPA/fuel efficiency boondoggle.

My dad used to say “Ford: Fixed or Repaired Daily”. He wouldn’t buy a Ford if they were the only car offered. And, there was also the antisemitism of Henry Ford himself. So, no Fords in our garage!
