Gov. Brad Little said Friday he is following up on a promise he made during his State of the State and Budget Address to send two more teams of Idaho State Police troopers to the Texas-Mexico border.
The troopers will be deployed in their new mission in the coming weeks.
"President Biden's disastrous open border policies have left Idahoans and Americans vulnerable," Little said.
Little said, to help curb human trafficking and stop drugs and criminals from flowing into the U.S., the Idaho Works plan calls for sending Idaho State Police troopers to train and act as a force multiplier "at our lawless southern border, as we did with fentanyl twice before.”
"There is a direct tie between the loose southern border and the flood of deadly illegal drugs like fentanyl coming into Idaho communities," he said.
Little said the troopers will learn the best tactics to respond to those who smuggle and abuse vulnerable people.
“They will come back to Idaho with better knowledge to stop these perpetrators in our state and, as they did before, our troopers will debrief and train their law enforcement colleagues around the state when they return,” Little said.
District 3 Rep. Jordan Redman said he supported Little's move.
"I think what’s happening at the southern border is horrific," he wrote in an email to The Press. "Both the human and drug trafficking that is happening is harming so many people and our country. Anything we can do as a state to help, should be done."

When I saw the headline, I thought he was going to send troops to the Idaho-Canada border. I thought to myself, it cannot take many troops defend that dinky corner.
“...that dinky corner.”
Yah, but they’re “O, hosers” like Fidelito
There are two border crossings in that dinky corner. One of them is an outpost with very little traffic. The officer we met there last year was pretty funny. He must have been really bored. He asked to see the dead body in our trunk! Who knew they had a sense of humor!
Reads like they will be getting training and helping out on the southern border. In reality, I think they are getting training and heading straight back to Idaho. LOL!
Such a disingenuous article.
And more good news…. there is no legal way for Biden to “nationalize” state troopers.
ISP doesn’t play.
I am convinced that every dollar Idaho spends to send troops to the southern border yields a hundred-fold return (in reduced deaths of Idahoans through drug criminality, hit-and-run fatalities, etc.)!
Regards,
Actually you should open up the northern border, Fidelito types won’t be heading south, they love it here in the peoples’ paradise but you will get a few conservatives willing to support Trump.
Ironically, that is what the fascade of “Defund the police” was all about 3 years ago.....ferderalizing all police.
Now if we can get New Mexico and Arizona to due the same ,we may just have a chance.
If you don’t support Trump you are a traitor to the country.
Maybe the mayors of Denver, Chicago and New York City should ask their Governors to send their state National Guards to the border.
Bump
Red state National Guard to Texas. Blue State National Guard to Ukraine & Middle East. It’s called, “Division of labor”

Have you ever been down to the Border in the summer? It’s not very comfortable down there that time if year. Especially for people from northern latitudes.
and, I have been calling for the Texas Rangers to deputize the members of the Texas National Guard to protect the border. The Texas Rangers were founded to protect Texans from Mexicans.
There used to be a ferry crossing into Michigan where the agents were laid back and personable. I actually enjoyed interacting with them. I saw a local walk off the ferry, wave to the agent who waved back and walked on to his job.
Bingo.
Easy to connect the dots...Obama's "We gotta’ have a civilian national security force just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded as (the military).”
It is still in play so long as the Obama Team remains in office.
