There are some youtube videos where some dude explains how bad it is there, and gives advice on how to more efrecrively stay safe when dating there. He explains what to,watch out for- lots of scams there as the people in the poorer areas there are desperate and turn to crime .

Brazil can be pretty bad in Terms of scam crime too I guess- anyplace can be really, but some are pretty notorious for it I guess

In some of the deaths, which the U.S. Embassy deemed suspicious, American men were found dead in their hotel rooms or rented apartments after outings with local women. In other attacks, thugs robbed and killed them on the street while they were on dates…. Others are believed to have died from mixing heavy drinking and the kind of mind-altering drugs gangs slip into drinks to incapacitate a victim before robbery.

Suspicious? Really? I am not seeing it.

In the mid 90s was invited to a university in Columbia by to give a lecture on my work. I requested approval from management of the very large company where I worked. I soon received a call from its head of security telling me that there was a risk of kidnapping and that in the event that happened they would NOT pay a ransom. It was a good trip. Soldiers armed with automatic weapons everywhere, bomb sniffing dogs and guys with mirrors looking under the car in every parking lot. Check points everywhere. Quite an experience.

Well, there is that old country song, "Lookin' for love in all the wrong places." Guess this is one of them. I don't do clubs. Never have. Even in my 20 years in the US Army, I probably visited the EM clubs, NCO clubs or the Rod & Gun Club, on any base I was assigned, probably less that 25 times, TOTAL, for 25 years. Mainly the Rod & Gun to get food. I always found their burgers, fries, chicken better than the EM or NCO clubs. EM clubs was music as loud as it could be played, a pile of drunk privates and puke on the bathroom floors. Even as an older NCO, I was never one to hang in the NCO club, drink until I about fell out of the chair, then attempt to drive drunk home. Either the MPs or the locals would rap your butt up pretty quickly. Nope, just clubs just have never been my seen. Neither have bars or sports bars.

If I ever felt the need to crack a nice bottle of German Rhein Hessein wine, then I did it at home. Safely tucked away from any DUI. Besides, I had invested in a really great stereo system, Pioneer turn table, Pioneer equalizer, Akai double cassette tape deck, nice Pioneer Receiver and two really nice Pioneer 450 watt speakers. Cost me a bundle, but I bought all of it through the PX in Germany. They had a plan in Europe, where you could buy on time at the PX and pay for it monthly. Your payment was based on how much you owed and how many months you had on your tour at the time. You had to have it paid up before you left Europe. Paid my system off in little less than three years.

Used to buy albums and tapes every month. At one time I had nearly 500 record albums and 200 cassette tapes. Gave the albums to a friend of mine. He is recording songs onto his computer. Maybe one of these days I can get a lot of that old 60s. 70s and 80 music on my computer. So, who needed clubs. And, I am still alive.
