As new images of dismal conditions at a Marine Corps facility appeared online in recent days -- dead vermin, flooded washers, apparent mold -- the service has approved several short-term quality-of-life fixes for Marines across the fleet, according to an internal document reviewed by Military.com.
The latest quality-of-life efforts mainly focus on oversight and management of on-post housing, and were marked as "near-term" initiatives in a memo briefed to the acting commandant of the Marine Corps and deputy commandants in November. They include removing barracks responsibilities from noncommissioned officers and line units typically in charge of housing management and putting them into the hands of government employees and installation commanders who are at higher echelons.
The document also outlined approved efforts to add "resident advisors" -- similar to those in college dorms -- to the barracks, as well as replacing furniture and door locks and improving dedicated maintenance teams to respond to immediate issues that many Marines may face when residing in decades-old barracks.
The changes, which are expected to hit the Marine Corps within the next year or two, according to the document, come as images obtained by Military.com show decrepit living conditions at a Marine Corps facility in California, including dead vermin, grime, laundry machines overflowing with water, and general dilapidation.

When I lived in Navy barracks each of us was held responsible for keeping the facility spotless. Absolutely spic and span spotless. Weekly "field day" parties were formed and senior NCOs inspected stridently.
Is that no longer the case?
“complete failure in leadership”
At all levels starting with the company commander, IMHO grime is his direct fault, just needs a GI party.
Flooding, vermin (not sure if they mean Dems), etc goes up the chain.
No, kidding. That’s not the image of the military I had in mind.
And, “The changes, which are expected to hit the Marine Corps within the next year or two”
A YEAR OR TWO??? Why not TODAY?? Unfreaking believable.
Do you really expect the woke commanders to make the woke recruits clean their own latrines ???
What and hurt their feelings ???
“Flooding, vermin (not sure if they mean Dems), etc goes up the chain.”
The flooding does.
Vermin would disappear if the environment was clean.
By looking at this pic, they can’t even make up their bunk. https://s.yimg.com/ny/api/res/1.2/L56Rthr8o5j_HD4VzZClpA—/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTI0MDA7aD0xMzUwO2NmPXdlYnA-/https://media.zenfs.com/en/military_com_347/15dcc9530de2e5f9c8bb2ea9ddd658d1
A “year or two” — maybe they are waiting for the Mexican gardeners and housekeepers to get hired and show up. Don’t want any recruits breaking any fingernails, not when the new “immigrants” can pitch in.
Ain’t your Daddy’s USMC. The military is in terrible shape.
dorm mothers??? damn...
I have to say these images make me ashamed.
WTF is the CNO and Marine Corps Commander?
“I don’t understand this, other that a complete failure in leadership.”
That’s the definition of the Bidet administration.

Take that, Putin!!!! We know how to spend our $1 Trillion FAR BETTER than you can spend your $80 Billion1
Commanders shoukd have periodically walked through or held intermittent inspections for the barracks. When I was first in the Army back in the mid 80s, we did periodic inspections where the commander or battalions leadership would walk though. NCOs ensured we cleaned and squared away the barracks.
We had a soldier tasked to be a Repair and utilities (R&U) man who conducted maintenance and uokeep of the barracks. Anything he couldn’t do was reported to the garrison.
Somewhere along the way, leaders were no longer held to account for barracks conditions as control was centralized at each installation.
Looks like they need a visit from Sr. Drill Instructor Hartman.
My uncle (1960s) and his son (late 80s) served in USMC. I asked them about movies like Full Metal Jacket - cleaning the head with a toothbrush and Gunny wanting it so clean "the Virgin Mary would be proud to take a dump in there"
They said - Yeah. It was all true. It was motivation not to "f*** up"
Welcome to the new, woke, politicized USMC
****- dead vermin, flooded washers, apparent mold***
Definitely not the military I was in back in 1966-1969.
Except for the Air Police (APES) barracks . Their barracks were filthy when we were forced into them and had to clean their filthy mess. APES were moved to a different clean barracks.
DMIF ?
When i went through, the gunny woulda had us cleaning that head with a toothbrush, and it would sparkle. LOL
