House Republicans could be on the verge of opening a third front of impeachment proceedings against top members of the Biden Administration.
Rep. Matt Rosendale’s (R-MT) office announced on Monday that the congressman plans to introduce one or more articles of impeachment for “high crimes and misdemeanors” against Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin when the chamber meets on Tuesday.
Austin “has violated his oath of office time and time again, and has jeopardized the lives of the American people,” Rosendale said in a statement, adding that the Cabinet official “knowingly put the American people in danger and compromised our national security.”
Rosendale cited the Chinese spy balloon flyover last year and insisted that recent reports show Austin “lied” about it multiple times. He said this “dishonesty seems to be a repeated pattern” with last Friday’s revelation that the Department of Defense waited days to disclose that Austin had been hospitalized for “complications following a recent elective medical procedure” that has yet to be disclosed.
“Furthermore, the Secretary failed to uphold his oath of office during the Biden Administration’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan which led to the death of 13 American soldiers and enabled unvetted migrants to flow into the United States,” Rosendale said before referencing a rape case involving an Afghan in Missoula.
Austin “is unfit for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, which is why I urge my colleagues to join me in impeaching him to protect the American people,” he concluded.
Some GOP lawmakers and former President Donald Trump have called for Austin to resign or be fired over the defense secretary’s secretive hospital stay. Others — including Democrats — have demanded more transparency.
Austin said in a statement over the weekend that he was on the mend and was taking “full responsibility for my decisions about disclosure.” White House officials told reporters on Monday that President Joe Biden “continues to have confidence” in Austin and looks forward to the secretary’s return to the Pentagon.
The GOP-led House already has initiated a corruption-focused impeachment inquiry against Biden. A committee is also set to begin impeachment proceedings against Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas over his handling of border security. It remains to be seen whether any of the endeavors result in a successful impeachment vote.
Impeach everybody.
Get everybody off all of the ballots.
Nothing is real.
Everything is permitted.
Repukes aren’t smart. They very likely don’t have the votes so why even mention this? He serves at the pleasure of the President. Waste of time. They couldnt impeach a hardened demon with the bunch they’ve got. Juat keep hammering Biden as long as he’s th secretary and repeat how he’s a threat to safety.
And nothing will happen as usual. Republa-WEF’ers play the part once again, then pretend to be outraged by something else followed up by inaction.
Wonder if it was a shot related hospitalization?
“ on the mend” but still in the ICU?
Able to do his job from the hospital but not appear for an interview to confirm proof of life and fitness?
Austin required a special waiver to become SECDEF because insufficient time had elapsed since he retired from the military.
My questions are: Why was this waiver granted, and why did the GOP (Mitchie McConnell) in the Senate help confirm him (affirmative action?)?
Right, it’s Abstergo rules now
Welcome to election year! A time when Republican Congress people finally wake up and start doing things they would never do if it wasn’t that time.
Its kind of a mating ritual, running around and fluffing their feathers and trying their best to convince their voters.
For a House that didn’t have the balls to do anything about Mayorkas, this is DOA.
Only 3 “fronts”?
Butt-Boy should be impeached.
That’s 4.
Mayorkas should be impeached.
That’s 5.
And more to come.
Definitely Dereliction of Duty...and probably good for impeachment.
Just more Elephant Talk.
Merrick Garland 1st, Mayorkis 2nd, Biteme 3rd. and actually finish the job by removing them, instead of running their mouth for campaign media ads.
Agreed. The can and should pursue mayors, who richly deserves it for willful dereliction of duty. But they need to be focused and an unsuccessful attempt at Austin will only give rise to the media narrative that they’re just impeaching for political games
Sigh. Mayorkas
I think Austin partied a bit too hard on New Years Eve and everything is just a coverup for a bad decision he made that evening. Probably a gay affair with cocaine involved. That seems to be the MO of Biden’s administration.
Kabuki theaters from lilly livered Republican cucks.
Give the guy a break, he’s obviously very unhealthy and come January he’s out of a job anyway. I’d simply reprimand him and this administration for failing to protect America, that’s the best message tied to Biden’s overall international weakness.
