The United States is in the throes of another covid-19 uptick, cementing a pattern of the virus surging around the holidays as doctors and public health officials brace for greater transmission after Americans return to school and work this week.
Coronavirus samples detected in wastewater, the best metric for estimating community viral activity, suggests infections could be as rampant as they were last winter. A smattering of health facilities around the country, including every one in Los Angeles County, are requiring masks again. JN.1, the new dominant variant, appears to be especially adept at infecting those who have been vaccinated or previously infected.

99% of my friends and acquaintances are completely over “Covid”, I hear it in conversations from time to time but usually with an eyeroll and shrug to indicate “yeah, whatever”. In my circles, that seems to have come to mean who knows anymore we can’t trust the medical establishment or government.
But, the one holdout that drives me crazy is my crazy vet. He is incredible with my animals and does mobile visits in which he does exams and shots for all 5 of my pets. He’s cool with me making my own ivermectin based heartworm medicine and does not push unnecessary shots and tests. But, he is still SO afraid of Covid. He insists I wear a mask and all exams are done outside. I comply because I really like him as a vet. He is also a polio survivor with long term issues and I think that may play in to his fears. I’m sure he’s been vaxxed and boosted
Anyway, I want to broach the subject of animal vaccines and mRNA technology because I want to avoid that at all costs. I quit vaccinating my goats after 2020 for that reason.

I have a neighbor whom I like. A friendly and apolitical guy. Doesn't really care about covid status, who is vaxxed, who isn't, etc...
He has a job that requires him to make deliveries to hospitals and nursing homes - so for that job, he's required to get vaxxed, and now boosted 5 TIMES!
Oddly, he doesn't care about that either, figures its no big deal, just part of the job, won't affect him.
I can't grasp that attitude either.
