California Woman Rams Possible Porch Pirate With Her Car, Killing Her

California prosecutors have charged a woman with intentionally hitting a 60-year-old woman with her car after accusing her of stealing a package from her home.

The incident took place on December 8, and the unidentified victim, who suffered major injuries, died on December 23.

Dene Blakely, 39, was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon and later attempted murder. The charge was upgraded to murder after the victim’s death.

The San Pablo Police Department said they were called to the scene and learned that Blakely had rammed the victim after an altercation over a stolen package. The altercation escalated, police said, and ended with Blakely intentionally hitting the victim, who has not been named, with her car.

Blakely was arrested “without incident,” police said.

Police did not say if the victim had actually stolen a package from Blakely’s home.

Blakely was arraigned on the new murder charge on Friday and remains behind bars on a $1 million bail, according to jail records.

“The Wild West was more tame than the name portrays.”

Absolutely correct. Frontier folks who spent almost every waking hour tending their land, livestock, and families had no time or patience for ne’er do wells who show up in town raising h3ll. If the bad guys were lucky they would be given a choice - leave town on your horse or in a coffin but leave town you will. The unlucky ones were the original FA-FO folks that usually had their bloodlines terminated. Then it was back to work for the settlers.

Not in the police’s or prosecutor’s interest to establish that at this point. The legal question is if there was a credible threat of harm to the woman in the car. If there wasn’t a threat to the driver, then running someone down over a package is a little extreme. But when police and prosecutors refuse to stop and prosecute thieves, people are naturally going to take the law into their own hands and you get situations like this.

These pirates are just so brazen about it. You can look at the YT PP clips and see that. Some open the packages right there on the porch so they don’t have to carry junk they don’t want. Others, when caught, play dumb and say things like “my boss asked me to pick it up. Isn’t this 321 Broad Street?” And others just drop it and waddle off (many are just plain fat.)

The police have no stake here I agree. However the prosecutor does.

There are three ways this could play out for a jury.

First that Car woman has been having her packages stolen by Thief woman repeatedly, has called the police they have done nothing and Thief woman has threatened her in the past.

You could make an argument for self defense.

Second, Car woman had been having packages stolen and when she saw thief woman walking off with it she snapped.

Argument for diminished capacity.

Last is thief woman was not stealing but had some perfectly innocent reason for being there. Car woman jumped to conclusions.

Coo-coo for coco puffs. Lock her up.

Demonstrating that the dead woman was a thief only works in the defense’s favor by reducing the severity of the crime. Prosecution would rather get the maximum penalty. It will be up to the defense to demonstrate that the victim was a thief. Also refusing to prosecute thieves is a decision the prosecutor is making so frustration with thievery tends to make them look bad.

Non-possible. California sets bail at $1 million?
Is the accused WHITE? Is the deceased non-white?
I guess I need more facts to understand the latest angle in the “war on women”.

That’s a great idea. I would never use a box with your address on it. A perp would use that address to bring that cat litter back and throw it all over your porch. That requires that they can remember where they got got the cat litter in the first place. I am also having second thoughts about the spray bomb idea. Someone might set a spray bomb box on your porch and get back at you if they can remember where they porch theft your tricked package.

...

She’d been drinking too much Fireball
And we begged her not to go
But she needed “medication”
So she stumbled out the door to buy some blow

When they found her in the morning
At the scene of the attack
She had asphalt in her forehead!
And Kumho all-season tire marks down her back

Grandma got run over by a Hyundai
Try’na play the role of Christmas thief
Folks may say there’s no such thing as Justice
But as for me and Grandpa, we belive!
