House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said his ancestral ties to slavery do not reflect his work toward a “colorblind society.”
A recent examination from Reuters found at least three of Johnson’s direct ancestors were slaveholders.
“As has been well-documented, the horrific legacy of slavery touches the ancestry of political leaders across the spectrum, including Presidents Biden and Obama,” Taylor Haulsee, a spokesperson for Johnson, said in a statement to The Hill. “But the actions of people who lived hundreds of years ago do not have any bearing on the Speaker’s lifelong work for a colorblind society.”

Perhaps these snowflakes at The Hill should investigate how the founders of Brown and Yale Universities obtained their considerable fortunes.

They are not his ties. They belong to people now long gone.
No one is responsible for what someone else did, even if the person is an ancestor.
But what’s the use of saying it? Today, all that is needed is a skin shade in the same ballpark as that of some of the now-dead slaveholders and you are condemned. Doesn’t matter if your grandparents arrived here after slavery was gone. You are considered guilty and there is no way to wash the sin away.

I would imagine a large number of representatives from the South have ties to ancestors who owned slaves. No surprise at all. Even blacks owned slaves.
Then, because Kamala Harris’ family owned slaves, she needs to resign the vice presidency immediately. She should resign anyway, due to her shocking incompetence.
