~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~ ~ Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 ~
On Sunday, December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By planning his attack on a Sunday, the Japanese commander Admiral Nagumo, hoped to catch the entire fleet in port. As luck would have it, the Aircraft Carriers and one of the Battleships were not in port. (The USS Enterprise was returning from Wake Island, where it had just delivered some aircraft. The USS Lexington was ferrying aircraft to Midway, and the USS Saratoga and USS Colorado were undergoing repairs in the United States.) In spite of the latest intelligence reports about the missing aircraft carriers (his most important targets), Admiral Nagumo decided to continue the attack with his force of six carriers and 423 aircraft. At a range of 230 miles north of Oahu, he launched the first wave of a two-wave attack. Beginning at 0600 hours his first wave consisted of 183 fighters and torpedo bombers which struck at the fleet in Pearl Harbor and the airfields in Hickam, Kaneohe and Ewa. The second strike, launched at 0715 hours, consisted of 167 aircraft, which again struck at the same targets. At 0753 hours the first wave consisting of 40 Nakajima B5N2 "Kate" torpedo bombers, 51 Aichi D3A1 "Val" dive bombers, 50 high altitude bombers and 43 Zeros struck airfields and Pearl Harbor. Within the next hour, the second wave arrived and continued the attack. Information from here...LOTS of pictures

20???? That's waaaaay too cold for my blood. Just below freezing is about all I can take. I have a very small threshold of comfort. LOL!
I hope Tux is ok, too. He might even wander up again sometime. He's been around the neighborhood for years. Pirate has been coming around my house for at least a year, but scooting in when I was not around. He's gotten bolder and I talk to him, calling him by his name as often as possible. I called him "Sweetie" at first, but that was before I got close enough to him to see his wonky eye.
PS this was before I poured him some food in his little dish.

A very pleasant good Thursday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.
Well, I got the reconnect scheduled for today. We'll see if they come by to do it or if I have to set up another one. We had to change accounts because the person with the old one passed away so now the account is in my name. We'll see what happens.
Wichita Ridge yesterday:
How's everyone doing this morning?

20s are way below my comfort range too. LOL At least it’s only the one night ...... this week. We’ll have plenty of 20s throughout winter.
I hope Tux does show up just so you’ll know he’s ok. He seemed like a sweetie.
Has Pirate let you pet him at all or is he not quite that bold yet?

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))
Gizmo must have had a great time at Wichita Ridge yesterday. BIG smile on his face. LOL
I hope they do reconnect you later today. You’ve gone more than long enough without gas already.

No, I can’t pet Pirate yet. I touched him a couple of times when feeding him, but he clearly didn’t like it. Yet. But he doesn’t run and hide when I’m pouring the food like he used to. We’ll get there. Took me forever with Midnight and he was around since he was tiny. Now he loves head scritches.
Yes, Tux was a very loving guy once I stopped trying to chase him off and he decided I wasn’t that mean. He was just funny at feeding time. He wanted it ALL to be his. I was training him to go to a particular dish so the others could eat, too. He was learning! He was an old guy, though. Moved slowly and had skin issues. Poor feller.

Yeah, when they’ve been on their own a long time, it takes time and patience to win them over. I had three feral males show up here several years ago - not at the same time - and it took over a year with each to tame them. Once I did, they were the biggest mush-buckets ever. LOL I could pick them up, hold them on their backs, do whatever with them. They were sweet as could be. I still miss them though they’ve been gone a few years now. They were fairly old when they showed up but I had a few good years with them.

Get some good sleep.
I’m thawing out after going out to the well house to make sure the heater’s running. Something I’ll do periodically throughout winter, as Hubby did. Do NOT want it to conk out and let the water freeze in the pipes above ground in there. It happened once before. All’s well tonight, though, other than me being chilled at the moment. LOL
Catch ya tomorrow.
