(Daily Caller)—Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s wife stepped in to end a Thursday debate with Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to multiple reports.
Newsom and DeSantis participated in “The Great Red State vs. Blue State” debate in Alpharetta, Georgia, hosted by Fox News’ Sean Hannity, where two governors later agreed to extend the debate past its original 90 minute duration. Hannity ended the debate following a commercial break directly after the agreement was made in real time, during which Jennifer Siebel Newsom interjected on behalf of her husband, both Politico and NBC News reported, citing DeSantis aides as well as unaffiliated sources.
The DeSantis campaign confirmed the events to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
“Gavin Newsom got beat so badly last night his wife literally had to throw in the towel for him,” Andrew Romeo, communications director for the DeSantis campaign, told the DCNF. “It was embarrassing.”
However, Newsom aides have since denied that his wife was the reason for the debate ending, arguing that staffers from both governors mutually agreed to the decision, both Politico and NBC News reported.
The two governors sparred over their respective states’ policies, largely over the issues of crime, the economy and numerous social issues.
Newsom dismissed data that Hannity cited over his state’s violent crime rate being higher than both the national average and Florida’s, where he instead claimed that “we’re near 50 year lows, down 55% violent crimes in the state of California from the 1990s.”
“So this is the slick politician — you put up the rates. He has 500 per 100,000. Florida is 250. So that’s almost twice as much, and he’s trying to spin that to say California’s doing good? People are leaving California in droves, largely because public safety has collapsed,” DeSantis pushed back.
The Florida governor presented a map of human feces that he said represented the city of San Francisco, of which Newsom previously served as mayor of.
DeSantis also pressed Newsom on his presidential aspirations for 2024 earlier in the debate, asking, “Why don’t you just admit that you’re running?”

What the audience didn’t see — and what at least five sources shared with NBC News — is that off-screen, there were significant disagreements happening. The DeSantis and Newsom teams were both arguing that the other side was breaking the rules that were agreed upon in advance....
Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, came into the debate room on at least two occasions to raise some objections.
She also made her way to the stage during the break after the candidates agreed to extend the debate and put an end to it.
A fifth source on the ground, unaffiliated with either campaign, confirmed that Siebel Newsom ended the debate on her husband’s behalf, saying, “We’re done.”

When the cameras were off, Jennifer Siebel Newsom intervened on her husband’s behalf. According to four sources in the DeSantis camp (one who physically witnessed the moment unfold and three others who were standing backstage), Newsom’s wife barged into the debate room on at least two occasions to raise some objections.

I could have EASILY beaten Newsom in a debate its not even hard..when he brought up anti semitism last night, I would have told Newsom “You had the Oakland City Council calling Hamas heroes..did you say a word about it..NO of course not..you had Paul Kessler, a Jew, murdered by an anti semite who is pro Hamas but the police in Thousand Oaks refuse to charge him with a hate crime because they are cowards, did you say ANYTHING about Kessler’s death, no of course not” Newsom is a schmuck..everything he does its for himself..when the 10 freeway got fixed in a week, he didnt do it for the city of LA, he did it for himself, so he could say “See look at how quick I fixed the freeway vote for meeeeee”

There is a segment of people that are ONLY-Trump for 2024, MAGA, and America first, that don’t want to see people like DeSantis destroyed. Its a fool’s errand. So Trump wins (God willing!) in 2024, who then in 2028? Nobody will be worthy to this crowd.
