(Gray News) – Toyota is unveiling a new affordable truck model that was recently introduced at the Japan Mobility Show 2023.
The IMV series first launched in Thailand in 2004 and is available in more than 180 countries and regions around the world, according to the automaker.
“In Thailand, the IMV series is regarded as a local favorite, integral to daily life,” the company stated in a press release.
Toyota said its engineers developed the Hilux Champ truck model with customer lifestyles and needs in mind.
Nearly a dozen customized models were shown at the launch in Thailand that portrayed a wide range of business styles and uses.

Cool, but just like the Hilux we won’t see it here in America. All the automakers, including the American ones, think Americans want $100,000 luxury trucks.
My dream rig is the Hilux four door diesel 4x4. Of course we can’t get them in the US cuz some bureaucrat says so.
I dunno, the Maverick keeps selling out every year.
Availability here was my first question. My husband has wanted a small truck like that.
The government passed some stimulus package for last year that allows people who buy a hundred-thousand-dollar vehicle and to take that amount off their company profit. So, last year it was a hundred thousand dollars even if they hadn’t actually paid that much on their vehicle purchase yet. This year it is $80,000. Since this was a sales gift to auto makers my guess that’s why suddenly so many vehicles cost a hundred thousand dollars.
I'm interested. Very.
Fed DOT mileage policies make it unprofitable to make small utility trucks. There are mileage requirements based on vehicle dimensions. So, a small truck with a powerful engine can’t meet the mileage standards and the manufacturer would have to pay a steep penalty on each truck. That’s why you don’t see them any more. There is a huge market for such vehicles. Just look at what a used Toyota SR5 will sell for. Thank your Federal Govt.
An affordable basic truck is not on anyone’s radar for the US sadly.
Then again a basic no frills affordable car really isn’t on anyone’s radar either
Because of the “chicken tax” on imported pickups..it would make them more expensive than domestic pickups.
Can I get one like they had in Afghanistan with a 50 caliber machine gun mounted in the back?
Prolly can't pass the EPA tests for imports - which they were not designed to.
Another government agency, saving you from yourself.
It’s not just this. Toyota could sell a million of these basic, durable $10k pickups here but EPA and DOT regulations won’t allow them to.
The overpriced vehicles Toyota sells here subsidize the more affordable vehicles in other nations.
I would think that if they came out with an updated version of the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder single cab six foot bed it would sell like crazy.
And put Lock Out Hubs on the 4WD version again.
Remember when Trump hired Scotty Pruitt to take a flamethrower to EPA regulations? But then Pruitt made liberals cry so Trump demanded his resignation.
That’s when I first knew MAGA was bullsh*t.
