GOP senators feel ambushed by Trump’s policy promises
The Hill ^ | 11/29/23 | Alexander Bolton

Former President Trump is creating new political headaches for Republicans locked in a highly competitive battle to win back the Senate majority by making extreme statements on health care, immigration and other issues unlikely to play well with swing voters in key states.

Trump shook up Republicans on Capitol Hill over the weekend by declaring that if elected president he would make another run at repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act.

The comments posted on Trump’s media platform, Truth Social, caught GOP lawmakers off guard because they haven’t had any serious policy discussions recently about getting rid of the landmark health care law, and there’s no consensus within their party on how to replace it.

Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.) admitted he doesn’t know what Trump is talking about.

“I’m for lowering costs and making our health care system more efficient, but I’m not sure — I’d want to know what the proposal is,” he said of Trump’s comments.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (La.), the ranking Republican on the Senate Health Committee, was similarly in the dark.

“It’s a narrowly divided Congress, it’s unlikely to happen,” he said, dismissing the prospect of a push to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The pantywaist Republican senators never ACTUALLY wanted to repeal Obamacare.

And their good buddy John McCain helped kill its full repeal.

They thought the issue was dead. They'd rather play defense on DEMOCRAT agenda items.

But oh, it's back!

So get discussing, pantywaists! Come up with some non-committal, mealy-mouthed talking points!

The only mistake the GOP made was ever promising to repeal ObamaCare in the first place. That’s why they came across as feckless losers when they failed to follow through on it.

The pathetic truth is that the GOP is filled with voters who love everything about ObamaCare except paying for it.

I am less worried about the need to repeal or replace Obamacare than the need to thoroughly root out the traitors and leftist acolytes in the military, the Federal police agencies, and the civilian bureaucracies. Trump cannot exert control when the entire Federal apparatus is hostile

National health care for taxpaying American citizens is looking better and better every day.

Don’t let them fool you. The voters want what Trump is talking about. It is the Senators who are out of line with the voters.

They “Feel” ambushed? My arse. They have been ambushing the will of the voters for many years.

I suggest they come around to what the people FEEL or retire.

Hey Thune & Cassidy, It is unaffordable and it is getting worse every year. With the Bill for 2023 around 22,000.00 per family, How can that be sustainable? It is time for these worthless POS Senators, to get off the lazy asses, and really try to reduce the cost of healthcare.

The Senate Rs have done nothing about exposing the Jan 6 lies, stopping the endless amount of corrupt money sent to Ukraine, investigating the Biden crime family or any other issue that is relevant. Instead, it is always go along to get along and they accomplish nothing.

there’s no consensus within their party on how to replace it.

But we surely all remember them campaigning on it for many years in a row. But when they had both Houses of Congress & the Presidency with one Donald John Trump, they exposed themselves as the frauds they had been with their campaign promises for all those many years since the ACA had become law.

Now they are worried that Trump brings it back up. What a pack of douche-canoes the GOPe in reality consists of.

They should keep it but tweak it, and rename it TrumpCare.

“I’m for lowering costs and making our health care system more efficient” — Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.)

Those are the two things that government can NEVER do. Obamacare did the exact opposite — made health car more inefficient and more expensive. Trump knows that if you can get government t out of the way, effigies up and costs go down.

It’s a one-party system, and Trump stands outside that system. As do the voters. Too bad for us.

Those responses from the GOP establishment demonstrate how ill disposed they STILL are to support or even work with the national front runner for the next national election.

That attitude got them into the dog house with voters in 2020 and they have not learned anything from the experience.

Trump's stellar and historic record of success in the WH is obviously something they refuse to acknowledge and which seems irrelevant to their political, social, foreign policy, etc. goals. In terms of cold hard logic, that makes no sense for any ‘party’ which expects and certainly NEEDS my vote or my support.
