For the first time since record keeping began, Earth has surpassed a critical temperature threshold that scientists have long warned could unleash the worst effects of climate change.
On Friday the planet soared 2.07 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, or the 1850 to 1900 average, according to Europe’s Copernicus Climate Change Service.
Not all hope is lost, however. The Fifth National Climate Change Assessment, released last week by the White House, underscored that every fraction of a degree of warming added or averted will make a difference.

What part of we don’t believe them do they not understand?
Would it help to leave my fridge door open?
I guess we are all doomed now. oh no!!!!/s
European climate officials should get their thermometers out of their backsides
Oh, here we go.
Another metric to use to hasten the BS ‘climate change’ crap up.
Better warmer than colder, morons.
Pant-load x 1 million.
Assuming any of this was true or real, which it is not, were we to stop everything today to prevent further warming, things would continue to warm. Just as we experience weather lag, where the warmest part and coldest part are not the middle of the day or night, there will be a lag in any larger trends too.
What is the current temperature of Earth?
What should the current temperature of Earth be?
Let's first note that the Little Ice Age ended in 1850 so one should expect temperatures to rise up from there.
Let's also note that 1850 to 1900 is hardly "pre-industrial".
And lastly, let's point out that that the "proper" global temperature is a complete unknown and that being "two degrees" higher than an unknown number is ridiculous.
These people just make stuff up and call it science. There's a lot of that going around.
Please, make them stop this crap!
BFD. At sunset there can be an even greater “dip” in temperature.
This is propaganda, not science. Not even very accurate measurements are being taken, no consistency, and scarcely questioned, certainly not at any depth.
Incomplete data, improbable hypothesis, and trying to work the results from the conclusion back to the spotty collection of readings.
Sometimes called the Finagle Factor.
...could unleash the worst effects of climate change.

You mean like a greener Earth with longer growing seasons?
My back patio tomato plants say bring it on.
OMG!!! Kill the cows!!
The Earth’s atmosphere contains 0.04% carbon dioxide.
Man is responsible for 3.4% of that 0.04%
The total amount of anthropogenic carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is therefore 0.0014%.
Completely eliminate man’s contribution and the Earth’s atmosphere still contains 0.04% CO2.
We’re gonna dieeeeee!!!!1!1!/s
Climate "officials". Is that like the ubiquitous, "experts"? And tell me, tell us every organization that funds these "climate officials".
The leftists tell us that we can save the planet if we all give up our freedoms, and half of us agree to be killed and the other half eat bugs, while our fearless leaders meanwhile will live and dine sumptuously, and fly around in CO2-spewing jets.
