I don't believe Chauvin was some bloodthirsty klansman. He was just another incompetent LEO who was too big for his britches. The result was a death while in custody.

My review and commentary from LEOs etc on FR was that Chauvin didn't apply the move correctly. Further his demeanor and attitude on tape speaks volumes to his character.

A competent cop, especially one who was in control of his emotions, would have neutralized Floyd - drugged up etc - without the theatrics. It happens daily in America, with competent LEOs dealing with drugged out citizens and people with cameras watching and filming. I suspect PLENTY of addicts die in custody without accompanying riots and destruction of property, because the cops Do Their Jobs.

While it's clear to me that Chauvin was guilty of manslaughter, I don't think he could get a fair trial in MN. Many of the charges were basically a dog piling. Indeed, Attorney General Ellison's amended charge (to include unintentional second-degree murder under the felony murder doctrine, alleging that Chauvin killed Floyd in the course of committing assault in the third degree) is strained at best, if not overtly political.

On the other hand...Donald J. Trump quotes:
“”The death of George Floyd on the streets of Minneapolis was a grave tragedy. It should never have happened. It has filled Americans all over the country with horror, anger, and grief.”

“At my request, the FBI and the Department of Justice are already well into an investigation as to the very sad and tragic death in Minnesota of George Floyd....”
https://x.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1265774767493148672?s=20

“I want to express our Nation’s deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathies to the family of George Floyd.”

There are more...

Rush also jumped on the police, expressing horror at the "murder" of George Floyd.

Nothing new for conservatives to jump to premature conclusions so they can virtue signal to leftists.

I recall National Review jumping on the LAPD as soon as the Rodney King beating tape was release, likening the police beating to something that only vicious police states do.

DeSantis couldn't be bothered to read the autopsy. Floyd had a lethal dose of fentanyl in his blood. 11 ng/dl. It is lethal at 3 ng/dl. His breathing problem was due to depression by the fentanyl. There was no evidence of trauma on the neck that would have contributed to his death. It was a show trial to appease the black community on pain of riot and destruction. The jury was threatened.

The COP DIDN’T put his knee on the neck, the reverse angle picture SHOWED THAT. The knee was in the center of the back, between shoulder blades

I recall reading a few weeks ago that George Floyd died of a drug overdose?

Granted, Chauvin over-reacted, but he did not kill Floyd.

I’m probably in the minority in believing that the cops mis-handled the situation. That doesn’t mean I believe they murdered him, and regardless, the murder and mayhem from BLM and others, in the aftermath, were outrageous and not justified in any way, by the incident. But the initial arresting officer was too confrontational, right off the bat and the situation escalated as a result, IMO.

Once others arrived and Floyd had been subdued, the continued pressure on his neck was no longer necessary, but continued. I understand that that technique is or was taught by a number of police departments, but at some point, once the guy is cuffed, common sense tells you it’s no longer necessary.
