"I saw the video of that cop murdering George Floyd. I was just absolutely appalled by what I saw. But I immediately asked folks -- both FDLE and others -- how in the hell could you even get away with doing that tactic? And sure enough, state of Florida, you do not put knee on a neck like that."
- Ron DeSantis

I wouldn’t go that far, but it would have been correct for at least some politicians to defend how he was restrained as appropriate given his conduct in custody.
Also, Ex-Cons esp the 12 percent often try “I’m sick, I’m sick !” to avoid being sent to jail.
Even Trump thought the attack on Jussie was legit at the time.
You don’t believe putting his knee on his neck contributed to suffocation?
It was manslaughter...not the charges he was brought up on an convicted of. They were political charges because apparently manslaughter wasn’t “bad enough” to charge him with.
Of course they would have. Even regular people were getting fired from their jobs for liking tweets that said, "All Lives Matter."
Half the country went completely batshit insane in 2020. And the other half of us kept our mouths shut if we knew what was good for us.
Absolutely not. There have been freepers here who have conducted this same experiment and they discovered a knee on your neck will not kill you.
I've read accounts of other people also having replicated this event and they didn't die.
Fentanyl, on the other hand, does cause respiratory distress. Look it up.
Rush Limbaugh had the same reaction.
Sheesh, i just realized he just brought this up. Yikes...Nikki Haley just said everyone online should be dozxed. Come on Ron, it’s a layup!!
That would be totally phony. Thr video was going around, everyone was talking about what they saw, people were getting violent and there wasn’t a lot of context. It was horrible to see. Cops arent supposed to choke people to death and that’s what you see in the video. Without context that is left to speak for itself.
Willful ignorance is not a virtue.
I (66 at the time, and 20 years older, with a scrawny neck) subjected myself to the technique on a hardwood floor. The ‘cop’ having a knee directly on my neck. In viewing photos, the position of the cop’s feet and knees, I noticed his 160some pounds were spread on 4 points (and 5 when including one of his hands). He likely never had more than 60 or 70 pounds on the back of the man’s neck.
I confirmed that the technique doesn’t seriously interfere with breathing. Throat was not pinched, and the abdomen, (where the diaphram is) was not compressed. I feel confident that I could have laid there for a half hour with no danger of dying.
Some ribs were slightly sore the next day. But that’s it. My risk was aggravating a few discs that have already been through football hits, and spills off of horses and motorcycles. But the next day my neck didn’t seem irritated from it.
It was months later I realized that the cop didn’t always have his knee directly on the neck, but some of the time it was on his upper back/left shoulder blade. So in trying that out I found it to be a little less uncomfortable than the knee directly on the neck.
But then, I don’t do illegal drugs (and rarely take so much as an aspirin).
Ping to #29
I tried it (see #29), and know of other men that tried it. My brother was a cop, and told me he used it a few times (and later in his career he weighed over 250 pounds. Chauvin was around 160).
But you see, we are supposed to be stupid and driven by emotion. That’s what makes for a good shallow mind (like the silly young women that were screaming, crying, and passing out at Shea stadium in 64, because some mop headed Brits were singing songs).
.
It was 1965.
If he could talk, he was not being suffocated.
You and your anachronisms.
“It was a show trial to appease the black community on pain of riot and destruction. The jury was threatened. “
AND — for all that plus the Official genuflecting — Da Commoonity still tore $20B out of the fabric of the U.S. economy.
Dunno about anyone else, but that’s recorded in my Little Black Book as “REPARATIONS: PAID IN FULL, Summer 2020.”
Autopsy CLEARLY showed cause of death was not due to asphyxiation but a heart attack.
Desantis turned out to be more of a light weight than Jeb Bush.
Only one man fit to run this country. Trump. Everyone knows it.
A militarized police force is just a posse commitatus work around. They should not have military grade weapons, armed personnel carriers and attack helicopters. What actually happened in the Floyd case is unclear. Talking about it from a one sided echo chamber is not fixing the problem.
They are conducting no knock raids and shooting dogs that they know are present.
Don’t praise them too much.. they arrested a woman who took her family to an outside park in covid.
The sheriffs department, if truly duly elected is your protection. The unionized, weaponized pd are to be treated with a full measure of skepticism.
I personally think the attention on their tactics leads to robust and thoughtful debate.
Well, for openers there is the autopsy. Then there is the video.
The bromide that Floyd, who was no saint, OD’d, is speculation, pushed by people who prefer a specific narrative.
You can hate riots, cherish the rule of law, and find Chauvin guilty and Floyd a loser.
