US House votes to pause impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas

WASHINGTON, Nov 13 (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Monday to pause the effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, halting a Republican campaign that alleges he has been derelict in his duty of in managing the U.S.-Mexico border.

The articles of impeachment, introduced by Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene on Thursday, contend that Mayorkas, an appointee of Democratic President Joe Biden, violated his oath of office by failing to constrain the record numbers of migrants arriving at the border.

The House voted to refer the articles back to the House Homeland Security Committee, which is carrying out its own investigation of Mayorkas's alleged dereliction of duty.

The move comes as Congress has less than five days to extend funding or send the U.S. into its fourth partial government shutdown in a decade.

The impeachment comes after months of threats from Republicans, who blame Biden's administration for rolling back harsh restrictions on accepting migrants and asylum seekers put in place under then-President Donald Trump, a Republican.

If the Republican-controlled House impeaches Mayorkas, he will almost definitely be found innocent after a trial in the Senate, which Democrats control by a slim margin.

In response to the initial impeachment motion, a U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said lawmakers should stop "their reckless impeachment charades and attacks on law enforcement" and instead "deliver desperately needed reforms for our broken immigration system."

The time has come for the man in the mirror to step up to the plate.
The man in the mirror holds all the power.
When the time comes, will you use that power to change things?
Or, will you just vote for the lesser of two evils?
The man in the mirror has to change.
The first and foremost change is......
A vote for a third party candidate is not a vote for the democommie.
It’s a vote for the third party candidate.
Anyone who says anything different simply doesn’t want you to change, or even consider to do the right thing.
They just want you to vote for the bush league chamber of commerce worshipping republiCAN’T because....
Because....
Well, just because...

What message does it send to everyone watching that the GOP will not impeach when there is a text book political case in front of them and they refuse to do so? To me the message clear: the GOP is not really a political party in the classic sense. It is just the “not Democrat” coalition of self serving pocket liners.

I saw somewhere it was of the worst 8 rino’s. Doesn’t do much good to have a vote if you’re going to lose. These traitors must go.

I just want to be sure I understand the stance ...

No, you don't understand evidenced by your statements posed as questions.

There are not enough Conservatives that vote, whatever conservative means. There are just Democrooks and Publicans, and the Publicans are far superior to the former. It wasn't always that way, but now the leftists have the ascendancy. They must be opposed, but not foolishly. Calling for impeachment without the votes, with (almost) all the media brainwashing the unwashed masses is not a winning approach. Neither is it explained by "stolen election" (which just makes one look silly). California, which voted Republican for decades, is unreachable. That is not a "stolen election." Georgia, Arizona, Virginia, etc. used to be patriotic states. Sure, the Democrooks cheat. They want power at any cost. Unfortunately, crying "stolen election" and promising FR not to vote again (so childish, really) does not solve the problem. People tend to vote for candidates they like, all other things considered.

So. You are all in on embracing Climate Change, unlimited murder of unborn children, redistribution of wealth (Student Loan “forgiveness”) because we cannot “win” on those issues?

You think we should just ignore Climate Change discussions and focus on lower taxes? Really. How is that supposed to work? I guess we will just print the money to pay the trillions of dollars it will take to PANDER to the hoax that is climate change. You appear to think because weak-minded people fall for it, we should enable them and pander to them in order to get their “votes”.

When industry is totally destroyed due to the outflow of American taxpayer money to the pockets of our own politicians and industrialists in Communist China and the EU in order to combat “Climate Change”, how is that going to help unemployment?

You are completely and totally comfortable with compromising with evil as a necessary expediency in order to get people elected. If you aren’t, you sure do sound like it.

I reject that utterly. It is a total lack of a moral compass.

Compromising with evil is evil itself. When I stand in front of God, I won’t say I advocated the unrestricted butchery of children in the womb or the theft from from my fellow citizens who worked to provide for their families so that money could be given to people who won’t work and wish them dead.

Of course, the fact that you frame it in a derogatory way towards me with your “ignore it if it makes you feel better” is condescending and ignorant at best, but the entirety of your post says quite a bit about you, and it is even more derogatory than accusing someone of willful blindness.

"...Neither is it explained by "stolen election" (which just makes one look silly)..."

You said all you need to say by not answering the questions.

I know what conservatism is, but you clearly don't. I have the measure of you and your ilk on these things. I understand quite well what you are and what you stand for.

What it says about me is that I understand that values have changed. If the GOP wants to break the losing streak, they will have to change as well.

I don’t get in a froth about it one way or another. I vote, but I don’t get too worked up over the outcome. I’m in my 60s. I may have 20 more years but like most Freepers, my day has passed. Conservatism will adapt to the ascendant culture or it will fade away. That part won’t be decided by Boomers or Gen-X.

All true.

I am disappointed to see people who would compromise on things that shouldn’t be compromised on, just to win an election.

I never realized there were so many morally devoid people supposedly in our camp. But they sure have shown themselves in this last year.

Broken immigration system was broken by the Biden administration and complicit Democrats...both elected and employed.

Ah, but God can; it may not be the outcome we think we prefer though. A nation that murders 60 million babies without repentance mocks God. Idol worship is endemic with stars and sports. Yet there are people going about doing good; works of mercy.

There is the difference. You don’t care. You don’t get worked up over the outcome. You think your day is over, let it all go wherever it ends up going.

I care because of the sacrifice and effort that went into the creation and founding of this special and unique country is something that gave me great freedom and prosperity, and I OWE it to our ancestors AND our descendants to preserve this country which has done so much good not just for me but for this world.

I take ownership of it because I feel that I must. I OWE that to this country that has given me so much.

I despise those who take what they can, enjoy the fruits of it, and if it is destroyed due to their inattention or disinclination to fight for it, to battle for something greater than themselves, it is no skin off their back if it slides into decay because “they got theirs”.

One of the problems is that many Republican Congress Critters are funded by donors who want the cheap labor that open borders help provide.

The key thing: “If the Republican-controlled House impeaches Mayorkas, he will almost definitely be found innocent after a trial in the Senate” except strike the word ‘almost’. It takes 2/3 majority to convict. No matter what Mayorkas (or Brandon for that matter) does or doesn’t do no dems will vote to convict.

The dems were quite willing to impeach President Trump, twice! because they hate him with the heat of 10,000 suns and to pay the Republicans back for impeaching Clinton.

Does he deserve impeachment and conviction? Of course. But removal will never happen. Will Trump find an impartial jury in NYC or DC? Of course not. We have lost our grasp on justice.

You are correct. Many conservatives are struggling with the rapidly changing political landscape. Conservatives are not the majority anymore.

The Republicans should do well in the elections last week. But we didn't. Part of it is due to the referendum on abortion. But this gives us an idea of what next year is going to look like. I predict Joe Biden will win 300+ EVs in the Electoral College and he won't even have to cheat.

The open border is not popular with Americans, democrats or republicans. Mayorkas is not a popular figure at all in America.
