An enraged McDonald’s customer says the fast food franchise is no longer affordable for ordinary Americans, calling the company’s contemporary prices “crazy.”
“So, I get there’s a labor shortage, I get there’s wage increases and a number of other things,” Idaho man Christopher Olive began in a viral TikTok clip, which has recently resurfaced.
“But $16? $16 for a burger, a large fry and a drink? It’s just crazy!” the flabbergasted content creator complained, panning to his itemized receipt from a McDonald’s restaurant in the city of Post Falls. The video was original posted on social media last December, but has now gone viral again after McDonald’s recently reported an increase in revenue directly influenced by a “strategic” hike in menu prices.

I’ll have to see if there is a Flannigan’s nearby where I occasionally work in Sarasota. Although I usually skip lunch, and breakfast too; I do like the Publix subs.
Yeah, that's the price I have to pay for living in a dull city in central NY State, but one bright-side is my rent is very cheap. I've been in this apartment for 23 years, and my rent is $545, so I'll deal with the lack of restaurants to go to. I get water and garbage with that cost, and pay for my own utilities. I have a big living room, dining/kitchen area as big as the living room, two bedrooms, one bathroom, two nice walk-in closets and hall pantry space, basement storage unit, central air, dishwasher, stove and fridge, all supplied by the landlord, and a maintenance department to make repairs as needed. Some company built new apartments down the street from me on what used to be an air base. It's now a business park. The starting rent for those apartments is $1500. I'll stay here until I die.
I recently ate McD's during a layover at Denver International Airport and was shocked to discover that airport McDonald's prices in Denver were cheaper than regular McDonald's prices in San Diego where I live.
I blame Biden for inflation.

Many brands have corporate-owned stores; some are a blend of corporate and franchise stores.
McD was a bad pick for an example, but that load spreading strategy is used in other industries to dovetail with economic variance in regions across the country — I’m thinking of gas stations, in particular. I expect the dynamic to emerge in other sectors, now, that rely on entry-level, low-skill employees.
I guess I ask too much. There’s a dive bar a few miles from my place. I go there once or twice a month for lunch with my daughter. It’s friendly. Food is good. Service is good. And it is fairly inexpensive. I suppose it is about the same or a little more than McDonalds price wise when you don’t count beer. It’s also not filled with screaming kids. The staff is non minority and speaks standard redneck.
We used to buy bags of White Castle burgers. If I recall they were 12 cents. This was back in the 60’s.
$23. But at least the burgers are good.
McDonald’s is now “beloved”? Ok then.
It seemed they stayed at 4 for a dollar for a long time.

Have you purchased a publix sub lately? My kids would get the chicken tender 12 inch for 5.99. Now it’s 9.99. Crazy bidenflation. No more publix subs for us.

I choose Option B—no app, no McDonalds.

I grew up in Oklahoma city and I remember around 1972 there was a burger joint named Griffs that had a small cheap burger for maybe 25 cents. I think a newcomer called McDonalds showed up around the same time with the same cheap burger.
My memory is probably a little flawed from that long ago. I enjoyed the movie about McDonalds creation staring Micheal Keaton.
Excellent idea. I had a bologna sandwich for lunch every day when in school. Oh I must mention my stay at home Mom made to for me.
