On November 7, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear argument in U.S. v. Rahimi to determine whether laws that prohibit possession of firearms by persons subject to restraining orders are constitutionally permissible.
The ruling could lead courts to invalidate “red flag” laws in more than 20 states across the country. While we will not know the outcome until 2024, this court has already made it abundantly clear over the last 15 years that it will take every opportunity to curtail common-sense gun regulations, even as gun deaths skyrocket in the wake of their rulings. Gun reform advocates have been fighting on losing terrain for decades and need to take a new approach: focus on state level reforms that restrict the sale of guns in the first place. First, gun reform advocates need to focus on the states, not the federal government. National gun reform requires an unlikely trifecta — Democratic control of the Presidency, House, and a filibuster-proof Senate. That’s happened once since 1994, it lasted for about six months, and even then Democrats were not able to pass any significant gun reform legislation. Without that hat trick, experience shows that our federal laws will not materially change, no matter how many shootings take place, or how heinous any particular shooting is.

""This has been true for various issues over the years. Think same-sex marriage, marijuana, paid family leave, and of course gun laws themselves. If other like-minded states enact similar laws, we could close gun stores in much of the northeast and the west coast. If the law succeeds in reducing gun violence, other states across the political divide may also become interested in following. In our polarized political world, it’s easy to forget that many common-sense gun policies like background checks and waiting periods already enjoy broad support.""
Anyone barred from owning a firearm should likewise be barred from voting.

But will they track ‘other’ violence, to see if it increases?

Heal the hearts of men.
First - IT’S NOT ‘GUN VIOLENCE’ IT’S CRIMINAL VIOLENCE.
Second - A gang banger who will kill a three year old child is NOT going to give a damn about gun laws.
Third - We don’t need fewer guns - we need fewer criminals.
I regret reading that article. I feel dumber for doing so.
Glad I saw your comment before wasting my time. Thanks! To the “ideaman”......🖕

Shove that up your ass with some of these:
There is one readily identifiable demographic group that while makes up less than 6% of the population, is responsible for more than 50% of what is called ‘gun violence’. Perhaps what is needed is a focus on reducing the violent tendencies of this group, rather than attempting to disarm all Americans.
By "common-sense", apparently they mean "stupid, ineffective, and unconstitutional". There's a knack to translating leftspeak.
How to curb gun violence: STOP Coddling criminals, and arm law abiding citizens so that they can defend themselves!
So what plans do you ahos have for curbing all the other non-gun kinds of violence or do you ahos even care about that?
Blacks and Democrats should be forbidden to own or possess firearms. All the ones they have now should be confiscated. This is just "common sense" gun control. Look at the statistics as to who actually commits violent crimes using firearms. Remember; "It's for the children"(tm).
Oops! There is that awkward Second Amendment thingy that gets in the way.
No matter. We can just pass State laws. Let the bastards sue. It will take them two decades of court appeals before they can get to the Supremes and by then we will have most of them in jail or bankrupted from legal expenses. And by then, maybe we can pack the Supreme Court with Justices who will be in favor of the new "laws".
Screw the Constitution anyway. There is "broad support" for unlimited government powers, and we mean to use them against the Wreckers and the Deniers and people who write mean tweets and anybody else who criticizes the government.
We must save "Our Democracy" (tm).
[/dystopian nightmare]
How about we just forget the whole thing. Repeal all of the Federal gun control laws and abolish the ATF. Invalidate all of the State gun control laws on obvious Constitutional grounds.
Put criminals who commit violent crimes using firearms into prison for 30-40 years. That is your most effective "gun control" right there.
Deal with the people violence.
Guns don’t pick themselves up off the table and start shooting others.
Just ask politicians, educators and religious leaders to request criminals to obey the law.

Outstanding! If I’m not mistaken that is the Barrett M99A1 chambered in .50 BMG or .416 Barrett. I have both.
They aren’t tracking it now. Millington, TN has a pop of 17K, any crime came out of Memphis. Now that Lee let the Illegals in, they are in the trailer park next to Walmart, they grab what they want hop the fence, and scatter. Carjackings in Kroger’s parking lot, seniors the biggest target. Both stores forbid employees from stopping it. Kroger HAD 1 UNARMED GUARD, he is now gone. Memphis is VERY BLUE. HIGHEST CRIME RATE IN THE STATE. WITH A PERMITLESS GUN LAW.
Lee tried for a couple of Red Flag laws in a Special Session after the TRANNY shot up that private Christian schools, but it Failed.
Now crime is rising in Covington, TN in Tipton Co. In a high black pop area, just like Memphis. I go nowhere unarmed. The nightly news would fill the whole hour with all of Memphis’ crime. And run out of time. Most are repeat offenders. Who only serve 30% of their sentences.
