Joe Biden’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is striving to enlist a diverse workforce through targeting certain demographics even as its air traffic control system is facing shortages and safety challenges.
The FAA has several diversity hiring initiatives, including for black people, Hispanic people, disabled people and women, according to its website. At the same time, air traffic control is experiencing numerous issues including staffing shortages, mistakes, technological challenges and close call incidents.
“We’re certainly critical of the FAA’s efforts—in the past and in the present—to rely on race as a factor in hiring air traffic controllers,” Mountain States Legal Foundation General Counsel William Trachman told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Obviously we are talking about a line of work where merit and the need for skill are a matter of life and death. No one cares about the race of the air traffic controller guiding in their flight.”

Mountain States Legal Foundation sued on behalf of plaintiff Andrew Brigida and over 2,000 other air traffic controller applicants who had test scores invalidated due to former President Barack Obama’s 2015 FAA diversity policy intended to hire more minorities. The lawsuit became class-action certified in 2022.

The Supreme Court effectively ruled that the use of affirmative action race-based admissions policies in colleges is unconstitutional in June.
Maybe they will order up some bud light and pay it forward with the wayward spent fed moneys theys getting?
Hey, something bound to come of this, right?
The affirmative action malignancy has reached Stage IV.
Traveled extensively for work for 35 years. Yet another reason to never fly again and even more glad I’m retiring
As a retired ATC(NorCal TRACON), I can assure you that the Diversity Hiring will not be an issue or not nearly as bad as it appears.
Why is that?
They will wash out.
Air traffic controllers use to be the cream of the crop.
MY wife and I are both retired airline pilots. She spent her last 4 years as a 747-400 captain flying the Pacific. When we were “furloughed” (laid off) during the ‘80s, she got hired by the FAA and went through school at the academy in Oklahoma City. In ‘85 she got fully certified as an enroute air traffic controller. (ARTCC.)
Her comment: “It was the HARDEST thing I have EVER done in my life!”. “In comparison, -737, -757/67, -747 type ratings and international flying were no big deal”.
THANK YOU for speaking up.
Complex Systems Won’t Survive the Competence Crisis
Long story short. Diversity is replacing meritocracy. People who know how to run things are being replaced by people who do not.
Twenty years from now, we won't be able to drink the tap water because the people hired to ensure tap water is drinkable don't know what they're doing. Of course, we'll simply be told that we were never able to drink tap water.
TEST PARAMETERS WILL BE CHANGED?????
They were routinely given extra sim time as they continually failed to pass whereas white males would just be flunked out and sent home.
I have seen many an overqualified and very competent white male pilot passed over for a bare minimum female or minority hire.
Same as POTUS and VPOTUS.
That should work out well.
The hardest part of flying a plane is the radio. The fastest way to be discovered as an inexperienced pilot is by how you manage the radio.
An IFR clearance delivery in complex airspace can humble even a seasoned pilot. Another identifier is not knowing your taxiways and runway intersections. Not asking for progressive taxi instructions at a major busy airport you are new at navigating can be an air traffic disaster. Leave your landing light off at night while taxiing. Strobes as well. They blind others and are rude. Turn that stuff on at departure.
For some reason, Steve Urkel saying “Did I do that”? comes to mind.
It’s only a matter of time before some AA employee, hired for skin color, or sexual preference, or gender and dumb as a post flies an airliner with 500 people in it into another airliner with 500 people in it.
I will want a rail pass for Dagny Taggart’s trains.
ALL they need to add is affirmative action MAINTENANCE. That will be the Trifecta to kill the airlines and innocent people.
FJB
Thankfully the diversity and alphabet people fail out of the system. A few will get promoted thou and that is where the trouble lies. Once the system is full of diverse alphabet people things will break down.
Glad I don’t fly any longer. Now I just have to worry that the planes above my home pass with no incident.
