Iranian fans demanded the removal of Palestinian flags and expressed support for Israel in Tehran on Monday.
The incident showcased a rare public display of differing opinions regarding the Middle Eastern conflict.
As the game progressed, a group of Iranian fans chanted slogans in support of Israel.
The unexpected demonstration took place in stark contrast to the traditionally anti-Israel sentiment prevailing in Iran due to the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Sharing the video on X, formerly Twitter, Israeli writer Emily Schrader wrote: "Iranian fans in Tehran demand the removal of Palestinian flags at a football match which the regime put up to 'support' Palestinians.
"There is no one, NO ONE who stands with us like the people of Iran!
"Thank you!"
Footage shows dozens of Persepolis FC fans defiantly chanting in Tehran's Azadi stadium - after the Islamic Republic officials and supporters installed and waved Palestinian flags during Iran's Super Cup final match.
The video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows a huge crowd of Iranian fans standing in the stalls and pointing down towards the pitch - while shouting 'push the Palestinian flag into your a***, into your a***'.

This is not your fathers Iranian theocracy...
No one would take them after the 1967 six-day war either. There’s no such thing as a “Palestinian.” These people are the descendants of Jordanians and Egyptians who attacked Israel and lost, and in the process of losing a war that they initiated they also lost territory as Israel pushed them back. When Israel tried to return them to their home countries, mostly to Jordan, those countries refused to take them. I think the reason they refused was two-pronged: 1) They knew what filthy violent animals these people were and didn’t want that element in their countries, and 2) They knew the anti-Israel propaganda value they would provide, enabling the Arabs to tell lies about Israel “occupying” “Palestinian lands” and “forcing” them into “refugee camps.” It was and still is a monstrous lie.
Is that really a Celtics basketball game?
This is going to make the Squaws mad.
I think they just reminded us that Persians aren’t Arabs.

LOL you don’t know what you’re talking about. Persepolis was the name of the capital city of the Persian Achaemenid Empire which was burned down by Alexander the Great. The ruins are located close to the modern day city of Shiraz. Iranians revere their pre islamic heritage and history and the name Persepolis is very popular for sports teams, buildings, etc. You wanna find a Persian restaurant in the next town you visit? Try “Persepolis” first!
Most Iranians are not religious at all. 40 years of theocracy have turned them against Islam
Oh, for God’s sake. You guys are so far out of control . . . .
Iran is Shiite. Hamas and Palestine (not the same thing) are Sunni. This whole story is that, and some tone deafness by their govt.
Sunnis and Shiites hate each other far more than they do Israel.
I’ve noted that educrats and medical types brook no criticism.
True.
LOL. LOL. LOL. I’m aware of that history of Persia.
I stand by my assertion that the Iranians most likely to express an interest in and affinity with that history are not Shiite Muslims who run the place but rather one of Iran’s religious minorities such as the Zoroastrians. Honestly, do you really think that a significant cohort of Shiite muslims is rooting for Israel in this conflict?
Educate yourself on the religious diversity in that country...

Iran has had so many convert to Christianity in recent years.
Ha ha! Of course it is!... Cuz, you know, there can't possibly be any other nations or sports events that exist outside of the American world view! (OMG, your comment - coupled with your tagine - made my day! 😝)
No it’s the soccer team based in Glasgow. Strong ties to the IRA, as it’s the team “Catholic” Irish support.
kinda how I feel about our government as well.
Either you’re radically ignorant or nuts.
Even CNN knows Iran backs Hamas.

YES of course they are. Almost 80% of the Iranians are rooting for Israel and against the Hamas and Hezbollah and even Palestine itself bc they know that these arabs are allies of the murderous regime occupying their own country, and since coming to power has sent tens of billions of their $$$$ to Palestine to support and build up of their proxy jihadists there.
Here’s just one example and there are thousands all over the internet: “Iranian people chanting in the football stadium, “Take the Palestinian flag and shove it up your ass” when a director at a football stadium raised the P flag!
