I Don't Think the House Fight Worked Out the Way Matt Gaetz Thought It Would

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) successfully led a coup against now-former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday. He managed to eke out a “win” by rallying the entire Democratic caucus and eight Republicans to oust him. It’s the first time that has happened in U.S. history.

And it’s a total clown show.

Not only does it distract from the already tense budget negotiations, but it makes a laughingstock of the GOP—and the U.S.—and gives Democrats even more leverage to push through their radical policies.

Gaetz got a win, but at what cost? Sure, he’ll raise a lot of campaign money from this—he’s already sending out emails and asking for money on Fox News— but is there a plan going forward? Of course not. The two congressmen whose names have been bandied about as potential House speakers—Jim Jordan (Ohio) and Steve Scalise (La.)—both spoke on behalf of McCarthy ahead of the vote and then voted to keep him as speaker. McCarthy announced tonight that he will not seek reelection as speaker. Gaetz stated emphatically that he doesn’t want the job. At publishing time, Scalise had sort of thrown his hat into the ring, and some are floating Trump as the next speaker, but none of that will be sorted out quickly.

House Democrats and Republicans have been at a stalemate over budget negotiations. The continuing resolution will expire on Nov. 17. There will be another showdown and possible shutdown as the country races toward the proverbial fiscal cliff. Instead of working on that problem, Republicans will be squabbling over the speakership. How does that help the country?

Gaetz, whether intentionally or ignorantly, overplayed his hand. He’s being celebrated in some circles as the brave defender of all that’s good, but not everyone is on board.

I’m done with Lauren Boebert and MTG is on my watch list.

Even Ken Buck voted to oust McCarthy.

I agree with newt. Gaetz needs to be kicked out of the republican Caucus and opposed by a strong opponent in the Florida Republican Primary next year.

Who was your favorite Young Gun?

Was it Cantor, Paul Ryan or McCarthy?

We may need that, but short of a black swan event (Great Depression 2.0, WWIII etc), zero chance of it happening.

Bullshit Paula, go home and bake some cookies!

Gaetz did exactly what needed to be done. You are a “Business as Usual” democrat. STFU.

If Jim Jordan becomes speaker, though at least part RINO, he will be an improvement over King RINO McCarthy. A vacant speakership is better than McCarthy.

And, in any event, it’s hard to imagine a bigger do nothing, along for the ride, California mindset punk than McCarthy.

But I watched McCarthy’s press conference after this and I thought he made a very good showing for himself he certainly claimed to have one more security at the border and Significant spending reductions and he denied that he violated any specific agreement.

Yeah, the border is really secure now thanks to McCarthy and he certainly has reduced spending. /sarcasm

Trump doing the repudiating of McCarthy, not the House GOP. I’m just saying you can interpret his criticism in more than one way than simply that he’s unhappy with the ouster.

“Republicans will spend all the time on trying to find a speaker”

How long is too much time?

The Temp Speaker sent everybody home for a week. Why?
Committee’s could still be working.

HOW COME GAETZ wasn’t bothered by Pelosi still OCCUPYING the SPEAKER’S OFFICE?????

When I read that yesterday, I was furious.

She has been in that room for 268+ days & has NO legal right to do so.

ARROGANT BITCH

Yes, Jethro has a double-naught plan. 4D chess. Brilliant! Does it involve a microphone?

Republicans voted 210 to 8 in favor of McCarthy.

Meaningless. The potential retribution from Speaker McCarthy for voting to oust him, of course affected the vote.

And then you have the retribution from all of McCarthy's powerful donors.

Hardly an honest article.

Starts with a lie using loaded term coup.

It was not a coup. It was a Motion voted on and passed under the established rules of congress.

That is not a coup and using such terminology is dishonest.

Which tells us all we need to know about the author.

I’ve noted the usual crowd who is upset at the McCarthy ousting. The same crowd, most are Republican establishment trash, some “principled conservatives”(think conservative in their own minds), Conservative Inc carnies, a few true conservatives who still believe in the Republican establishment prattle, but all saying the same thing: this is a clown show, this is unseemly, where is the plan here, we don’t act like this, we are so embarrassed is there someone’s ass we can kiss to stop this torment!

In the process of denouncing the conservatives that removed the lying speaker they kill a base voter whose had enough of their lies and abuse. Base voters they cannot afford to lose at this point. Instead of looking at this as an opportunity to be a real opposition party and win for country and their voters they only care about their own sorry hides, but that is what being a Republican in congress is truly about in their world.

The 4D chess meme is no more ridicules than the "Chaos" meme. And that uniparty Big Media message is everywhere.

"It's chaos!"

There will be no Democrats that go off the Democrat reservation in the vote. Lockstep in line against whoever the R’s put forth.

No matter, we simply could not afford having McCarthy continue with his Paul Ryan ways, and we cannot afford to have someone of the same political maneuvering proclivities take his place. Republicans in Congress are going to have to start doing what they promised.
