GOP lawmaker Issa demands answers from Newsom, Senate leaders on Laphonza Butler's Maryland residency

FIRST ON FOX: Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., is expected to send a letter to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on Monday afternoon expressing concern over Newsom’s recent appointee to replace the late Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Newsom tapped Laphonza Butler, the president of EMILY's List – a Democratic political action committee (PAC) dedicated to electing pro-abortion Democratic women to office – for the vacant interim Senate seat late Sunday evening.

However, Butler's home address is listed in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Issa is questioning the constitutionality of her ability to take office while residing in a different state than the one she will represent.

"We're not talking about the question of majority, we're talking about 38 million Californians who have an absolute right to have somebody who puts California first – not who puts the District of Columbia first or Maryland, where she's a resident, first," Issa told Fox News Digital in an interview Monday.

Following the grand tradition and precedent by former NY Senator Hillary Clinton and Utah Senator Mitt Romney.

Rules are meant for the ruled.

Is there a law in California that says its Representatives or Senators have to be citizens of the state?

I’m pretty sure Georgia doesn’t and that’s how the House ended up with Lucy McBath, who was living in Chattanooga, I think.

Same goes for Ossoff, who ran for a state seat. State Senate, I think and didn’t live in the district. And no one in Georgia cared. And he almost won.

She has a house in California and changed her voter registration to her California address.

As long as that is the case before she takes the oath of office, I don’t think there is a law to prevent her becoming a senator representing California.

Everyone’s missing the point in that this is just the continuation of purging Whites from government and inevitably from society itself. This woman has zero qualifications, she is a leftist stooge, she has no understanding of the Constitution or the concerns of Legacy Americans. All she’s going to do is rubber-stamp the leftist agenda.

Is it a strongly worded letter?

Indeed. With the promise of an even more strongly worded second letter if needed.

If there ever was an example as to why the 17th Amendment should be repealed this is it!

The California State legislature would likely choose an ass but at least it would be a California ass.

U R rong. Y would I say this when I agree?

You see the left will always push our button on issues that get us to waste our time pursuing. Think the Kenyan’s birth certificate or Bill Clinton’s black son. No DNA comparison. Benghazi witnesses? None came forward so it didn’t happen. Now the cigar in the Oval Office was worth it. There was too many ways to find out.

Pick our battles my friends. Then do it for effect. Just remember the democrats are smarter than us. There are no Lee Atwater out there.
