Batteries suck.

ABC -—> Always Be Charging.

We are way way away from driving EVs @ 80 mph for 16 hours/day on a charge.

Jao BiXiden continues to suck.

In a related story, gas in San Diego went up $0.40/gallon over the weekend.

It was $5.29 on Friday. This afternoon it's $5.69.

In March it was $4.29.

"There is a theoretical, magic tipping point for adoption of electric vehicles. Once somewhere between 5 and 10 percent of new car sales are all-electric, some researchers say, huge numbers of drivers will follow. '"

“Early adopters who love shiny new technologies will be replaced by mainstream consumers just looking for a good deal.”

Relatively speaking they’re probably right. EVs will retain their tax credits and gasoline cars will be required to double or triple in price...until being fully outlawed.

...so, yes, EVs will be a ‘good deal’, by that standard.

At 10% everyone will know someone who fell for the hype, and regrets it. Sales will fall.

In fact it appears that this is already happening, what with all the reports of the cars self-immolating, getting stranded due to cold, stranded for lack of a charging station within range, stranded due to software malfunctions, und-und-un

Ford can’t sell their vaunted electric F-150 according to expectations, and I doubt they are alone

Rather reminds me of the 3-D TV market.

The industry has tried 3 times in the last 60 years to bring 3-D Television to life. It would flounder for a couple of years and then disappear. It is just too clumsy for the general public to use.

I suspect similar will happen with EVs unless they can find a way to make long trips more accommodating. Hour/hours to recharge on long trips is not to viable. Also, charging stations seem very susceptible too vandalism, so will a charging station be available at the next stop?

Hooey. There was a small number of early adopters, but then reality hit hard. Now the new car lots are full of EVs that nobody is buying, because nobody else wants them.

I expect they will be soon seen with the disdain of the Ford Edsel.

Last year, the United States finally passed that elusive mark — 5 percent of all new cars sold in the fourth quarter were fully electric.

And this year EVs sit on the lot, unwanted.

I was on I80 on a recent weekend, and I stopped for gas at the station I knew to be the largest in the city.

While filling up with fossil fuel, I paid attention to the several EV charging stations available.

Half expecting to see some waiting, either at the station or inline, I observed what I did not expect.

Nothing, not one EV charging customer. For most of a half hour during what should be a prime charging time, and a large distance between cities, meaning no charging alternatives for substantial miles.

Take away?

Nobody wants to take an EV on a road trip, and a corollary..

EVs are for buzzing around town and impressing your woke friends, cars are for both around town and also road trips. Most folks know this, I learned, some lie about it.

The “magic tipping point” tips back the other way as soon as the federal subsidies dry up.

Hmmmmmm......some legislation is making its way through the Kalifornia legislature that will mandate all EVs charging systems be “bidirectional capable.” For those of you in Rio Linda, this means the government wants your EV battery energy to be funneled BACK into the Kalifornia electric grid.

Imagine your woke EV is fully charged, and you wake up in the morning to go to work..... OOPS... the powers that be decided they ‘needed’ the electricity more than you do, and took the energy.

Senate Bill 233 (SB233)

Kalifornia has already announced their intention to outlaw ICE autos. They talk all the time about establishing more and more EV charging stations. They refuse to build any more electricity generation. They are tearing down dams that provide very inexpensive electricity.
