Former President Donald Trump has drawn outrage from pro-life conservatives after he panned a six-week abortion ban championed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as “terrible.”
“I think what he did is a terrible thing and a terrible mistake,” Trump, 77, told NBC’s “Meet the Press” when asked about the policy in an interview that aired Sunday.
The 45th president’s remarks triggered backlash among anti-abortion activists, including from groups like Live Action and Students for Life,***
“Pathetic and shameful. Trump is actively attacking the very pro-life laws made possible by Roe’s overturning,” Lila Rose of Live Action said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Heartbeat Laws have saved thousands of babies. But Trump wants to compromise on babies’ lives so pro-abort Dems ‘like him.’ Trump should not be the GOP nominee.

The Susan B. Anthony List, which has pushed candidates to call for a national abortion ban — and criticized candidates like DeSantis who have declined to do so — initially had a tame response to Trump.
“We’re at a moment where we need a human rights advocate, someone who is dedicated to saving the lives of children and serving mothers in need. Every single candidate should be clear on how they plan to do that,” Marjorie Dannenfelser, SBA president, said in a statement.
“Anything later than a 15 week protection for babies in the womb (when science proves they can feel pain) as a national minimum standard makes no sense.”
We've already seen the disastrous results of Donald Trump compromising with Democrats: over $7 trillion in new debt, an unfinished border wall, and the jailbreak First Step Act letting violent criminals back on to the streets.

“Republicans across the country know that Ron DeSantis will never back down.”

DeSantis supported abortion, otherwise he would have banned it.
6 weeks is still abortion. Hypocrisy running rampant here on FR.
I am the biggest Trump fan on the planet. Does not mean I will pretend he cannot be wrong.
Is killing blacks the only reason you promote and support the abortion movement, or are there other reasons?
But then Trump objects and says its terrible if states actually do limit abortion.
Here, let me explain the situation to you:
1. blacks do the most abortions, black women have huge amounts of children out of wedlock
2. If that were not the case the amount of black voters would massively increase and we would have a democratic party monopoly in the country
3. And that in turn would mean no more bans on abortion
So in other words, your group that does the most abortions would eventually grow and make sure that NO anti-abortion laws would pass
Trump’s SC appointments paved the way for the repeal of Roe v Wade, which completely changed the landscape on the abortion issue, for the better. At this point, the only meaningful difference between Trump and DeSantis on this issue is the degree to which they support legislation on the federal level and what any such legislation might look like.
At this point, Trump’s opinion is just his opinion. He’s hinted that he’d be interested in making some sort of deal, but he’s not been very specific. Likewise, DeSantis has been unclear on where he stands, regarding federal abortion legislation, and if he supports it, what such legislation might look like. On top of that, neither Trump nor DeSantis can make a deal, unilaterally. They would have to go through Congress.
You spaced out again and became spammy and non-responsive.
Sounds like it’s a law that legalizes murder for the first 6 weeks of life. Tomato, Tomatoe.

BINGO!!! I guess Desantis supporters are OK killing a 6 week old. At least if we take them at face value here with their so called “argument”
Thank you for being a voice of reason and cutting through the BS. Great post.
Abortion on-demand should be just as illegal as any other murder.
I gave you your answer, now you have to learn to read
You refuse to answer. Is killing blacks the only reason you promote and support the abortion movement, or are there other reasons?
Very disappointing words from the man who gave us 3 pro-life Supreme Court justices. I know Trump will likely win the primary, but if he thinks this will help him in the general election he is sorely mistaken. The majority of Americans do not support baby killing, no matter what the left says.
The danger with very restrictive abortion laws is that they may cause enough Democrats to be elected to Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act. That’s the unholy grail for abortion supporters.
What on earth has that to do with abortions? Or are you one of those with a huge poster of Margaret Sanger on his/her/its wall because she killed the “right” kind of baby?
I know you’re new to this site, but this ain’t Stormfront. Take your rants about race somewhere else. The rest of us are trying to discuss the best way to combat abortion.
“I will pretend that the Biden administration is not encouraging minorities to beat up white people and absolve them of any crimes while throwing white people in jail for protesting voter fraud”
Ok
I explained my reasoning, too bad your tranny brain cannot comprehend logic
