Former Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff Marc Short said Friday on CNN’s “The Lead” that Donald Trump’s mugshot was the “tragic” result of the former president violating his oath to protect and defend the Constitution.
Anchor Jake Tapper said, “This is first time I’ve talked to you since Trump turned himself in Fulton County Jail. You worked for Pence, but previously you were Trump’s director of legislative affairs. I want to get your response as a human being, when you look at the mug shot of Donald Trump, the former president, you’ve seen it now.”

Good question - here’s another:
Since, per the Constitution, the State Legislature directs the manner in which the State appoints Electors, why is the State’s Executive Branch allowed to certify the vote, and not the State’s Legislature?
The State’s Legislature was chosen by the Framers for that role because it is composed of elected representatives, and therefore more accountable to the people. The State’s Executive Branch is made up almost entirely of unelected permanent bureaucrats, and therefore more susceptible to fraud and corruption. Is not giving them responsibility for both running and certifying elections a conflict of duties, and a direct violation of the Constitution?
Why must the President of the US Senate (VP) rubber-stamp certifications received from each State’s Executive Branch, and ignore protests from the State’s Legislators?
How is it a violation of a VP’s oath of office to consider or accept an alternate slate of Electors, certified by the State’s Legislature, the Branch empowered by the Constitution to direct the manner in which Electors are appointed!?
The whole thing is upside down.
