Despite Biden Claiming 'All Is Well,' We Just Got Really Bad Economic News
Townhall ^ | Aug 31, 2023 | Spencer Brown

Yet another inflation metric jumped in July, further debunking claims that inflation is in the rear-view mirror and reinforcing Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s remarks earlier this month that additional interest rate hikes would be needed.

The latest Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index print released Thursday was in-line with expectations which were higher than previous reads.

Headline PCE inflation showed an increase of 3.3 percent year-over-year and Core PCE inflation — excluding volatile food and energy prices — increased 4.2 percent in the last year.

Compared to the previous release, headline and core PCE inflation increased 3.0 percent and 4.1 percent, respectively, showing that price increases continue to trend in the wrong, more expensive, direction. The July report also (again) debunks President Joe Biden's wishful claims that inflation is "down."

All is well in Biden’s world as long as he gets his diapers changed, and he gets his daily ice cream cone.

Didn’t they just have a celebration of the anniversary of the inflation reduction act????

Maybe Karine Jean Pierre can explain how this is all really good news......

They can celebrate any fake narrative they want, regardless of any reality. The two are unrelated.

The latest celebration focused on the government's "negotiating prescription costs down." How does that work, without coercion?

Politics is the art of making people believe that unreality is reality.

I wonder what the true inflation rate is when including gas and groceries.

That’s for certain. Some items have gone up 50%-80% (roughly)

The government always excludes "volatile" food and energy items when creating false statistics. They have always cherry-picked items to put on their "official" reports, while excluding many items that destroy their narrative. When Biden claims all is well, he is referring to their success with coverups. Inflation is out of control, "Nothing to see here, move along!".

I believe the above statement is untrue and I believe it is by design and intentional which makes it a lie.

My best yardstick on inflation is my breakfast. I eat at the same restaurant several times a week. Breakfast 3 years ago was about $12.00. It is now about $17.00. That’s over 40% HIGHER.

I just thank God I moved when I did and got a 2.78% loan.

The CPI methodology is pretty good. It’s public.

They survey a lot of people and ask, in effect, what % of each month’s expenditures are various categories. These %s are all averaged together.

Then they send staff out to get a measurement of the prices of those categories.

Blend the two items together and you can quote inflation.

If you can think of a better way, they open their process up periodically for suggested improvements and then do internal evaluation. They HAVE made changes over the years.

The Fed’s target is 2%. Peak inflation in the past couple of years was about 8%. It is now 4%. That is a reduction. The Fed is quietly doing QT, which is rather more important than tightening rates. But there have been occasions when they stopped. And when they did, inflation resumed.

There does not have to be a cure for this. The US can fail. No law of nature says the US is forever.

excluding volatile food and energy prices

What sort of Commucrat Goebbels wannbe ignores those two HUGE categories ?

Grocery bills are staggeringly high while packaged quantities keep shrinking and shrinking.
Not to mention gas prices being TWICE what they were before this senile pedo sock puppet stole the keys to 1600.

Hate Commucrats yet ? ? ?
