For over 35 years, the American political system has been unable to make any significant change to U.S. immigration policy. In June 2023, a bipartisan coalition of representatives introduced the Dignity Act, a comprehensive immigration reform bill. This followed a poll showing that four out of five Americans support bipartisan cooperation on immigration that would address labor shortages and inflation.
While U.S. politics may continue to prevent an immigration grand bargain, there are many commonsense reforms the government could take to fill gaps in our current workforce. American policymakers need to wake up to a new reality: The country is running out of workers, and immigration must be part of the solution.

There is a solution suggested in a book I heard of once.
He who does not work should not eat.
Yes, a few qualifiers are appropriate, but we should get rid of the federal Dole. And the ferral Bushes. And any interactio between the feds and anything that might be regarded as a point of light.
I suppose wages must be going through the roof for American workers in that case
Illegal aliens are not IMMIGRANTS
I haven’t been by the local 7-11 at noon these days to see how many day laborers that didn’t get picked up are still there.
Yep. The grand bargain the left is pushing for is amnesty and citizenship to create millions of communist voters. After the bargain, they’ll flood the country with even more invaders.
Cutting unnecessary welfare and eliminating so much foreign aid is the solution...
When you just open the floodgates, you let in the sewage with the water.
The government needs to do the job of filtering out the sewage.
Another Hill article trying to conflate illegal immigration with legal immigration and hope no one notices their disingenuousness.
Booschmidt! There is a labor shortage only because the jackasses in this country don’t want to work anymore after the RATs’ pandemic. They found ways to live off of other people’s money and the Fed is willing to let them do it as a reward for their votes. If these two bimbos think putting miggies in our military, our government, running our courts, running our Congress, running our agencies, well, they either need to be piss tested or see a shrink. IMHO.
Anyone thinks the GOP isn’t owned by globalists is a fool
“Illegal aliens are not IMMIGRANTS”
I agree. But let’s accept, just for discussion, their premise that we need immigrants. That means we need a massive round-up of illegal aliens to make room for those lawful immigrants. Doesn’t it?
Immigration does not solve labour shortages. Much of the labour shortage is people who won’t work, kids, women and white males who have figured out that there is no advancement for them any more. The reality is the HR BS is just so stupid that its easier to quit and game the system in some way.
People who are walking over the southern border are not filling needed jobs. These people don’t speak the language and are often unemployable because they have no papers. They black-market the jobs like doing lawns or they fill in on construction crews hauling shingles to roofs and such.
The biggest issue is that there exists a huge part of the workforce that is fully capable of doing high paying jobs but just does not want to deal with crap anymore. Wokism has killed the old American work ethic that existed 20 years ago. Good luck trying to replace that. AI and robots won’t cut it.
Article just posted here yesterday.
It got my attention because this “immigrant” was captured in the town of Rye, NH where my wife and I went to the beach the day before his apprehension.
NO
Anyone for more immigration does not have to drive in rush hour.
More people means more crowded cesspool cities.
That right there is the rub.
“He who does not work should not eat.”
Not exactly. It’s in II Thessalonians. It allows for people who aren’t able to work.
” ... this we commanded you, that if any would not (WILL NOT) work, neither should he eat.” People who make the choice not to work should not eat.
Labor shortage?
I mean we have 41.2 million people
That translates to 12.5% of the total U.S. population on food stamps.

We have 62% workforce participation between 18-65.

Legal Immigrants are almost as likely not to be working as Native born.

Immigration is just a solution for more people of working age becoming dependent! It doesn’t solve the labor shortage, it just creates more dependency issues. Specifically like crime and violence.
The key to ‘saving’ the nation isn’t immigration, it’s finding a way to get people from dependency back to the workforce. We need a process that gives people a second chance, an opportunity to become independent and have pride.
