More than 40M Americans living in cities experience ‘heat islands’: study

More than 40 million Americans in cities live with the impact of the “heat island” effect, in which city centers absorb more heat than surrounding areas, according to an analysis published Wednesday by the organization Climate Central.

Cities are particularly susceptible to the heat island effect due to the replacement of natural vegetation with infrastructure like pavement, which absorbs more heat. This can mean the impact of climate change is more keenly felt by the 80 percent of Americans who live in cities, particularly in the recent waves of extreme heat.

And don’t forget all the heat dumped into cities by air conditioners! The Gaia cultists have not announced a ban on them yet, but they will.

Nothing new. they were screaming about “Heat Island cities” back in THE COMING ICE AGE hoax days.

I still remember when Tulsa OK reached 102 degrees back in April 12, 1972. Some people reported 106 degrees.

Could it be that the detection of "climate change" is tainted by heat islands? Or are the thermometers able to "feel" the difference?

Ground cover is certainly an answer. Water concerns here in AZ have many converting grass lawns to stone or desert landscape with little ground cover.

No wonder.

Satellite images show developing thunderstorms surrounding our valley, but unable to break through what must be a rising column of hot air released every evening.

This isn't an admission by the left that cities are hot because of growth instead of carbon dioxide.

This is the left building up a justification to force suburbs to take in urban climate refugees.

hmmmm from 1964

Oh when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof
And your shoes get so hot you wish your tired feet were fire proof
Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah
On a blanket with my baby is where I’ll be.

No idea re: water table, but monster winter rains in the west replenished aquifers.

A water table is what ? the point at which visible water appears in the soil ? If that’s the definition it’s 10, 20, 40 feet I would guess...maybe more here in a desert.

It’s generally 3-4 degrees warmer in downtown Chattanooga than it is some 15 miles away. Consistently.

AZ. Water Resources says average Depth-to-Water in Phoenix is 236.4.

Can’t be inches, so must be feet.

I walk from the top floor to the NOT a walk out basement and it is noticeably cooler on each floor. We have lots of fans going and low humidity.
I live just SW of Denver.

Any way to turn the heat up to about 2000 degrees?

Most cities are RAT infested.

So urban areas are human caused global warming BUT...The entire planet is very sparsely urbanized in terms of land area.

So all the globe bull warming handwringing in this country is focused on influencing the 17 counties that determine national election results.

Boo hoo. I don’t live in a big city, but my outside thermometer reads 101 degrees right now, so I’m not exactly enjoying iceberg-like conditions these days, myself.

Newsflash: Summer is hot.
