A seminal moment in the lives of tens of thousands of young men occurred in 2017 when they attended the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) National Jamboree, where they were addressed by President Donald Trump. The Jambo traditionally has always been a transformative experience for the youths who attend it — two weeks away from their families in a tween- and teen-boy paradise, a sylvan Never Land where they can belch and play with cool, nerdy stuff and whittle and stink without having to worry about impressing girls or being nagged not to do something dangerous.
Anywhere from 2% to 5% of Boy Scouts journey to the quadrennial National Jamboree. At its peak, the BSA hosted 50,960 attendees at the 1964 Jamboree at Valley Forge, Pa.,

This year, only 15,000 are expected to attend.

following Trump’s appearance at the 2017 Jamboree, many Scouts’ moms, who had been apoplectic since he was elected and couldn’t handle their sons’ enjoyment of the event, wrote screechy, enraged, tear-soaked letters
..
Within days, the BSA and Chief Scout Executive Michael Surbaugh posted apologies. But that was never going to be enough. Mere months later, national Scouting leadership, already under intense pressure from its corporate sponsors to go fully intersectional, removed the final restriction that made the Boy Scouts a unique youth program: the mighty, formerly boys-only BSA announced that girls would be allowed to become Scouts. It was finally time to quash the last remaining bastion of toxic masculinity

Scouts at the Jambo can hear from luminaries such as former White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr. Deborah L. Birx or Elaine P. Ho, the Chief Diversity Officer at NASA.

Eeeww.
I was at the 1964 Jamboree as a part of the Cape (Cod) Council of Scouts. It was pretty amazing.
I forget the name of the guy, but there is/was a rich guy who got onto the board and started pushing the gay and left wing nonsense being members...
Instead of removing this idiot from their board, they pretty much capitulated to him...
I think you are referring to Robert Gates. Who is now the Chancellor of The College of William & Mary, unfortunately.
“I hear the Boy Scouts are introducing new “tuck friendly” uniforms and am embarrassed to have ever been a Boy Scout.”
I heard they were replacing “Eagle Scout” with “Flamingo Explorer”.
BSA was an environment where boys could get away from home, experience nature, take risks and get ready for adulthood and/or the military.
My scoutmaster was ex-military, and so gave us a taste of military discipline. Plus we got to play with knives, guns, fire, to sleep on the ground, to eat squirrel that we had caught, all without getting hurt.
But it changed. That little bit of maleness was too much for the left, and they let girls in. Interestingly, the Girl Scouts don’t let boys in.
A male adolescent...
Though I was never a scout, I encouraged both my sons. They are both Eagle Scouts and fine young men.
My wife assisted with their scouting program as I travelled extensively for work and she absolutely loved it. Being a scout leader and seeing boys grow into young men with leadership qualities truly made her appreciate the program.
When we moved to Australia not long after they got their Eagles, I had free time and became a scout leader here in Australia. It is a dismal program here. It is mixed boys and girls and many of the things that boys should be doing were lost. Instead they should have kept the sexes apart. The Girl Guides are only female.
There are many activities that can be coordinated between boy scouts and Girl guides that would be great for both. However the individual groups should really be gender/sex separated.
I gave up being a scout master due to health reasons, but I still think about the kids every day. Even though the program is broken here, it still provides great value to the kids. BTW, the scout uniforms are very different here. Apparently some time back a bunch of mom’s petitioned the national leadership and got them changed so they wouldn’t look militaristic. Another loss for the program.
Please remember the problem is national leadership and not the kids. Most local units are still great, but they are fighting a losing battle unless national leadership is changed.
I was there at that ‘64 Jamboree, an Eagle Scout, but didn’t see Fred & Wilma. Heh.

Actually the BS CEO was way more than prepared. The leftys worked hard to get their people into position. It started with a former Trump appointee, Rex Tillerson. Rex was the BS hmfic at one time and did a lot to “soften up” the organization and laid the path for it’s ultimate demise.
Mr Trump made a inappropriate campaign speech to the scouts. One of the more embarrassing moments of his presidency........
“Oldsters often reply - six or seven, soon after Kindergarten”
That would be Rex Tillerson; Donald Trump later appointed him Secretary of State.
... ...uh...

Not sure if this is who you’re talking about but:
“Confirmation won’t be Tillerson’s toughest fight. He pushed Boy Scouts to accept gays.”
Trump’s Secretary of State.

It's like that Old Time Religion. It's good enough for me.
More would have attended but they couldn’t decide to wear pants or dresses .... just skipped it.
“do certain people just have no respect for the office of the presidency, even if the president is someone they did not support?”
Well, I can only speak for myself but that ship sailed for me in 2008. Once a fraud was allowed to usurp the office, the office didn’t have any legitimacy left. And after 2020, fuhgettaboutit.
