The Titanic tourist submersible that vanished on a trip to the 111-year-old shipwreck at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean is believed to have run out of oxygen — but authorities pushed ahead with the search operation Thursday morning.
OceanGate Expeditions, which operates the Titan sub and whose CEO, Stockton Rush, is aboard the missing vessel, told the Coast Guard on Sunday evening that the vehicle was equipped with only 96 hours of oxygen, with the timer running out around 7:08 a.m. Thursday.
The status of the five passengers aboard the ill-fated trip remains unclear as US and Canadian officials work around the clock to attempt to locate the missing Titan sub 900 miles east of Cape Cod.
The Coast Guard on Thursday morning confirmed that a remote-operated vehicle “has reached the sea floor” and started searching for the missing sub.

They died “doing what they wanted to do” bump.
Agreed, THey billionaire statements are made by commies.
But IMHO, we can issue 5 Darwin Awards.
The operation was sophomoric.
Given reported QC issues it was probably a crack in the hull and instant death for all aboard.
In a 2022 Good Morning America segment detailing a previous, successful expedition to the Titanic, journalist David Pogue reads aloud a portion of the passenger waiver. In it, Titan is described as, “An experimental, submersible vessel that has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body, and could result in physical injury, disability, emotional trauma, or death.”
In a follow-up Twitter thread this week, Pogue appears to confirm that Titan lacked any emergency distress location beacon at the time of his visit. “On my expedition last summer, they did indeed get lost for about 5 hours, and adding such a beacon was discussed…,” he writes.

Well this is sad. But at least they made sure not to hire any of those 50 year old White Guys who actually know what they’re doing. I’m sure everybody in that sub feels better knowing they achieved a high DEI score prior to their death at the bottom of the ocean.
It's very sad and even sadder to see the “feelings” crowd becoming more prolific here on FR.
Could they have had a way onboard to recycle urine to solve that? Assuming no one had recently eaten asparagus... Although they don’t seem to have invested much in survival supplies and redundant safety systems....
Not just Darwin Awards, but gold plated Darwin Awards.
Tragedy plus time equals comedy. Too soon?
“The department of the Navy is sending resources”
And yet some guy running a bodega in NYC can’t get a cop to show up when his store is being looted.
“ The sun is “there” and yet to be explored.
What excitement. Such thrills.
Pay no attention to those old white guys telling you it is “unsafe”.
It isn’t unsafe if you go at night when it isn’t so hot.
I’ve seen mentions of his comment on other threads. I’ve been dealing with my own life this last week so I’m not up to date on the submersible and the players. Who said it? When? What was exact comment? Context? If you don’t mind. Trying to get up to speed some.
What is ROV?
Sorry I am so stupid.
What is more upsetting is that this prideful, arrogant man who scoffed at safety measures and fired the man who warned him many times about cutting corners, talked his BS into getting people to go along with him. Now the families must grieve losing loved ones… many of whom possibly begged them not to do this.
An old white guy who knew about the Coast Gueard says one the Coast Guard decides there is no hope of rescue, they will quit the search because their job is rescue.
He figured that could be today. That sub most likely imploded.
Equipped with good lights and cameras, they are more than capable of showing as much as, or more than, the passengers on the Titan could hope to see.
Inexperienced/incompetent rich guy “pilots” buy ultra expensive high performance private aircraft and kill themselves and their families all the time.
This submarine guy seems to be cut from the same cloth.
