'Awkward' Ron DeSantis 'has to be told when to SMILE by advisors,' who are now desperate to get him talking with more voters after gaffes derailed his 2024 launch

Ron DeSantis’s campaign wants him to meet and take more questions from ordinary voters to overcome fears about his temperament, DailyMail.com has learned.

The 44-year-old has so far shied away from Q&A sessions on the road, despite being a standard feature of U.S. politics.

Now, three DeSantis staffers have said they have concerns about the Navy veteran’s presentational style after being overshadowed by his wife Casey at rallies.

A third source said that they even had to coach the Florida governor on ‘when to smile’ when trying to interact with ordinary Americans.

OK, I'll admit my criticism was too harsh.

Would DeSantis do well in Washington against a hostile Deep State, treacherous RINOs, the news media, Leftist dark money groups, and entrenched Democrats in Congress with majorities or near majorities? If nothing else, DeSantis surely could not (unlike Trump) personally cover tens of millions of dollars in legal fees. My fear is that unlike the combative, outgoing Trump, DeSantis would cut disabling deals to save his skin, or would hunker down like a clam in mud, hoping not to be dug out before the tide comes back in.

Who knows? We may never know the answer to that question. I keep seeing pro-Trumpers say DeSantis in 2028. What would change, between now and then, other than more experience as governor? I don’t get it.

My fear is that via our own stuckonstupid ssdd circular firing squad BS, our side will destroy DeSantis as a candidate for any future date....and the left will destroy Trump and his chances of being president again....

and we’ll be left with, once again, the literal DREGS from which to choose (Pence?) and those that will have NO chance of beating the Democrats in 2024, even if there were magically no election theft and fraud.

For policy ideas, I think the edge goes to Trump. For actual ability to IMPLEMENT policies, I would give it to DeSantis.

Trump and DeSantis are going to have to make their case by telling us who will be on their team. Neither can do it alone, we need to know who their “helpers” will be.

Trump didn’t do a very good job of it, his first time around, what will be different this time?

And that is something that bothers me. Trump hasn’t demonstrated that he has learned a damn thing from his first term. If he went “Nuremburg 2,” the left and the media would howl but there are a great number of independents who would like to see some accountability who would LOVE to see some people swing.

Let’s hope and pray that we get the chance to find out, first-hand, from either of them. Trump, 1st pick....DeSantis, 2nd choice.

My fear is both will end up taking the other out, then we’re stuck with someone like “Darling Nikki”.

I am guessing that up till now, Ron DeSantis has experienced most of his political success when he was more or less spontaneous, being himself, and had tighter control over who he was going to speak to when, where and about what.

What we are mostly seeing now, is Ron’s attempt to fit a pre-cast mold that “all presidential candidates” are expected to fit into, more or less.

That makes a lot of sense.

I can see that a person would be very nervous trying to act instead of being himself, especially running for such a high office and against Trump.

Then, once ridicule was thrown his way it would have begun a cycle of worsening his anxiety.

DeSantis won his US House seat in the Jacksonville area in considerable part because he was a former Navy officer running in a city with a large Navy base. In addition, DeSantis's wife Casey had been a popular local TV reporter and news anchor and was an energetic and effective campaigners with him.

Thanks! I didn’t know this.

As in Congress, as Governor, DeSantis developed a reputation for having an awkward manner and being hard to get to through staff. DeSantis also tends to churn though advisers, leaving some of them feeling ill-used and hostile. One of Trump's key current advisers, Susanne Wiles, was previously one of DeSantis's key advisers until she had a falling out with him.

I didn’t know this, either.

Thanks so much for summarizing that for me.

“Could he have Asperger’s?”

Doubtful. Those with Asperger’s tell the truth. They can’t help themselves. It’s what they do. That eliminates RD.

Thanks for your response.

That information is disturbing.

I’m glad I commented because I’m learning all I need to know about Ron on one thread.

:-)

That and after watching Trump slaughter 17 repubs in the 2016 primary, it’s got to be a little intimidating going up against him. Probably some nervousness.

At least a little intimidating.

👀

Absolutely. And nobody should have any doubts that Trump’s attacks during the past 6 months have added to the intimidation factor. If Trump had held his fire till DeSantis made it official, I’m sure we would have seen a more confident DeSantis at these initial stages of the campaign.

Ahhh ... the Daily Mail:

1) 100% truthful when confirming your prejudices

2) Worthless, lying, Big Media propaganda trash when contradicting your prejudices.

Well in politics, they know who’s running way early on by how much they get in donations. DeSantis received way too much in donations for a easy win governor re-election and that was when Trump went on offense.

He’s been into boxing for a long time so he comes out swinging like Mike Tyson. Think of 2016 primary debates. Took some down with a punch or three.

I’m just saying what it looks like to me, so that others can
at least have a conscious thought about it.

He’s not quite as squeaky clean as some folks think > IMO.

I just want folks to have their eyes open when it comes to
him.

Sometimes we get too wrapped up in a candidate, and a lot
gets ignored. I want to touch on things that will fill out
his true nature.

Some may view these things and not be too disturbed.
Others may find the things pretty troubling.

It’s up to them how they see it.

For me, I’m not real anxious to back the guy this time
around. Not sure if I ever will as we learn more.
