Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, speaking at the NCGOP convention Friday night, said if he’s elected president he would reverse the recent decision to change the name of Fort Bragg to Fort Liberty.
The promise by DeSantis to restore the name of the major military installation just north of Fayetteville, which earned loud cheers and applause from a ballroom full of Republican delegates at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, came just as President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden left newly named Fort Liberty after meeting with members of the armed forces.
The presidential candidate was touting Republican successes in last year’s midterm elections in Florida, and in North Carolina, amid disappointing results in the rest of the country, when he brought up the recently renamed installation.
“I also look forward to, as president, restoring the name of Fort Bragg,” DeSantis said to raucous cheers from the crowd.
He added that he would “thank the people that have served there, and they’re proud of their service there.”
“It’s an iconic name and an iconic base, and we’re not going to let political correctness run amok in North Carolina,” DeSantis said as the crowd continued to cheer.
Earlier on Friday, at Fort Liberty, Biden signed an executive order to enhance employment opportunities for military families. The executive action is intended to improve career stability and expand resources and support for military and veteran spouses, caregivers and survivors.
Fort Liberty, named more than a century earlier in honor of Gen. Braxton Bragg, a Confederate general from Warrenton, was renamed as part of a Department of Defense effort to adopt new names for military installations that were named for Confederate soldiers.
It is a BIG issue for me and thousands of military menbers and family that called Fort BRAGG home. This was my and my families HOME for 13 years + years. My Father was stationed there for a short time during WWII. It would be like saying Oh, you were born in Richmond VA? That was the capitol of the confederacy. Got to change the name. This whole issue about base name changes meant a lot to us former and retired military. This is not your issue so I recommend you stay out of it.
I am, we are way beyond angry, cold fury at the communists sullying our brothers in arms.
What I would like to encourage I can't. I am saying that those with children need to leave. Poland. Hungary - some island in international waters.
Ummm.... no he didn’t.
I believe it was one of the Roosevelts who started all this Indian naming...to revive their existence.
This re-naming of military facilities is just another petty fit-throwing middle-finger-at-normals endeavor. Changing the name does not change the history.
Thanks, by the way.
A few are among the 22 per day, too.
Smart move by DeSantis. Having military experience helps as well.
That was then.
Now that he's (admitting he's) running for president, he'll pander to you.
This! +1
We should be taking America back from leftists completely with both big and small initiatives.
Good question, the vets and vet organizations could have won this as an issue of little importance to the public at large while being a spit-in-your-face dismissal act against veterans and our war dead.
All my paperwork has Ft. Bragg on it.
It’s a big deal to any paratrooper worth anything.
That video is intense.
Exactly. We want an open and vigorous primary and then will coalesce around whichever candidate wins.
There are too many creepy Trump cultists who will not vote if Trump is not the nominee.
This issue is indeed a small issue but as you stated add up enough small issues eventually they equal a major issue.
If it matters to no one why did the left demand the name get changed in the first place.
What I would advise DeSantis to do is follow up this announcement and declare once elected POTUS he will fire every Equity Agenda advisor in the military and restore the military to the designated agenda which is defending America
Amen, the rate we're going at it today, we're going to be lucky to get to 2025 much less 2525.
Good. I am sick and tired of this name-changing.
This is like pissing in the wind, as if this is a big issue for anyone.

DeSantis with his “I’ll do something about the obscure.”
How do suburban women & independent voters feel about DeSantis’s stance on this?
Oh. So there are Good People that oppose the name change? What a surprise. /s
I’m not happy about that and I’m not going to try to make excuses for it.
Leaders need to demonstrate they have the capacity to learn from their mistakes and not make the same mistakes again.
I’m more confident in this ability with some leaders than I am with others.
