Slavery Reparations Bill Passed by New York State Lawmakers

A commission to consider reparations to address the effects of slavery will proceed in New York under a bill passed Thursday by the state Legislature.

“We want to make sure we are looking at slavery and its legacies,” said state Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages before the floor debate, AP reports.

“This is about beginning the process of healing our communities. There still is generational trauma that people are experiencing. This is just one step forward.”

To make reparations fair the total for the “great Society” should be subtracted from the total amount including what our fathers and grandfathers paid.

One should also take into consideration that New York City profited a great deal from slavery in the American South as cotton and other goods from those states were processed through it’s harbour (along with Boston’s). When you got up to areas like Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, Central Leatherstocking, and elsewhere, they were staunchly pro Republican and anti slavery in contrast to NYC’s Democrat and pro slavery leanings.

As Hispanics are the new and massively growing demographic the Democrats fully intend to control by giving them stuff and money, the far smaller black population, in order to be kept on the plantation, needs to be given something too. Reparations is a fine game of "tomorrow" and having something tomorrow never has to be delivered today.

"Tomorrow" was the game played in my favorite theme of San Francisco in the moment. The drug scene will be solved by free "clean" needles and more "free" stuff. The commercial real estate problem will be solved by refinancing and refinancing and refinancing. The human feces on the street and resulting "map" for the world to laugh at will be solved by public relations. The theft in businesses will be solved by.... The assaults on BART will be solved by.... Tomorrow.

California has come up with the idea that since nobody can prove their ancestors were slaves, all they are going to have to do is claim that their ancestors were slaves. Everybody who had ancestors who lived here during the cotton picking years needs to apply regardless of skin color. Because it’s possible your ancestors actually were slaves.

The present white population of New York is predominantly made up of the descendants of immigrants who came to America after 1865. Many of the immigrants themselves suffered discrimination, especially Jewish and Catholic immigrants. It is beyond absurd even if you believe in the nonsense about multi-generational guilt.

Also, many of the black population in New York are from the Caribbean or Africa.

A huge chunk of the black population in New York City are immigrants that probably didn't make it to America until the 1970's, let alone 1865.

An interesting theory. You could very well be right. Given how far this has been taken so far, it’s probably beyond the point where the Dems can walk it back.

A competitng theory is that they are relying on some Federal judge or SCOTUS to declare it unconstitutional. They the Libs get to blame Conservatives for blocking reparations.

I don’t think you will ever see direct payments from White people to Black people. Rather, it will come from the US Government, which means even more debt and currency devaluation. I also think that the money will destroy many in the AA community in ways they can’t forsee. It will cause many to leave the workforce, which Biz is probably okay with. In the end, it will not work out the way they think it will.

Interesting that southern democrats were the slave owners, seceded from the union, fought for states rights, created Jim Crow laws, poll tax, and KKK, yet yankee democrats are for reparations while southern democrats are not.
