One should also take into consideration that New York City profited a great deal from slavery in the American South as cotton and other goods from those states were processed through it’s harbour (along with Boston’s). When you got up to areas like Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, Central Leatherstocking, and elsewhere, they were staunchly pro Republican and anti slavery in contrast to NYC’s Democrat and pro slavery leanings.

The present white population of New York is predominantly made up of the descendants of immigrants who came to America after 1865. Many of the immigrants themselves suffered discrimination, especially Jewish and Catholic immigrants. It is beyond absurd even if you believe in the nonsense about multi-generational guilt.

C’mon man, NY was a transportation hub at best, grabbing federal export tax, and a piddly port tax. Back then they processed nothing.
