Among the many plot lines in the Dianne Feinstein saga is Gov. Gavin Newsom's pledge to appoint a Black woman to replace the 89-year-old should a vacancy arise before her term expires in January 2025.
He made that promise during his 2021 anti-recall campaign, and a new article from the Associated Press' Michael R. Blood conveys the extent to which the governor may have boxed himself in. While many Black Democrats expect the governor to follow through on his pledge, the two candidates who seemed the most likely at the time of the pledge — Reps. Barbara Lee and Karen Bass — may no longer be options. Lee is running against Rep. Adam Schiff to succeed Feinstein, so Newsom may want to avoid tilting the scales in that race. Meanwhile, Bass just began her tenure as mayor of Los Angeles.
That leaves the “caretaker” route, in which Newsom appoints someone who doesn't enter the Senate race, and the Associated Press story provided just one name that has been “floated in California circles” as a caretaker pick: celebrity talk show host Oprah Winfrey. exp-player-logo Read More
For whatever it's worth, people in “California circles” often float a ton of unsubstantiated gossip that's more “Hey, I’m just spitballing myself here” versus “Hey, a person close to the actual decision-maker told me this thing.” On the Oprah rumor specifically, however, there's reason to believe it may be closer to the latter than the former.

I would be more inclined to believe Michelle Obama could accept such a placeholder role. Michelle could ‘get her feet wet’ in this sort of Training Wheels kind of position without risking too much personal credibilty.
I would be quite surprised that Oprah chose to deal with all the fuss, disruption and mandatory diplomacy of any political job, even one just for the summer. Oprah doesn’t need politics per se to exercise her celebrity powers.
California can hardly be considered “a democracy.”
In the place of an 89 year-old vegetative permanent politician, either a deep-state CIA stooge or TV star will be appointed, whoever it is will then become the new permanent office-holder
Its like something from the late Roman Empire
Appointed, not voted into office.
Neither Michelle or Oprah want to actually show up to work everyday for a senator salary when they can do one speech and make big bucks. Michelle Obama is not that ambitious. The Obama group is already running things.
Michelle “Michael” Obama doesn’t have the slightest connection to California as far as I know. Not that that matters these days...
We used to laugh and point fingers at the Roman Empore. But the horse he appointed to the Roman Senate had more judgement and mind and morals than many (most ?) democrat Senators today.
Caligula’s horse.
The wealthy who are not California residents structure their time in the state in a way that avoids having to pay Cali income taxes. Why would Oprah want to take up a job that pays less than $200k a year and would subject her to tens of millions of dollars in taxes annually?
Oprah is a resident of Hawaii. A substantial estate hundreds of acres with a public road through it which she has legal control over access from both ends (gated road through her property- an amazing thing, that. Sort of like Obamaumao’s private oceanside home that splits in half the ancient Hawaiian royal family’s sheltered swimming cove- in fact an archaeological site. Funny that too- as it would require deeded access granted by the Historic Commission).
Residents of Hawaii cannot be appointed Senator from California, or any other State for that matter.
She won’t give up her millions
She doesn’t reside in California
She is a qualified democrat. A racist who hates the white women who made her rich. She also had about $570 million parked at the SVB bank that was completely protected at taxpayer expense.
Hillary says that doesn’t matter if you have connections aka enough money.
Remember when she was called a Carpetbagger before she became Senator?
A Qwang rules. She does not need to run for office. Whoopie or Moochelle will not dare present themselves as elected officials.
Senator is a cushy job, but Oprah is a star. How would she handle being just one of 100?
He didn’t really name his horse a Consul, but bragged that he could have.
Leftists are so hung up on identity politics.
Schiff is a psychopath if lying leftist, Lee a hardcore MARXIST (one of Dellums top aides), and Bass a mini-MARXIST.
Goldberg couldn’t fit through the doors of Congress even with a barrel of axle grease and an oversized shoe/ass horn.
Lawd. Another fat-ass’d lesbian? Just what what need. 🙄
