Bret Baier Throws Cold Water on DeSantis Run: ‘Something Has to Change Dramatically’ For Him to Win

Fox News’s Bret Baier assessed that the 2024 Republican primary will have to experience an earth-shaking development for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) to surpass former President Donald Trump.

Baier joined America Reports to react to the news that DeSantis will officially join the 2024 presidential race in an upcoming Twitter Spaces event with Elon Musk. The Special Report anchor began with a nod to Fox contributor Karl Rove, who spoke before him about how Trump currently leads the GOP — adding things could change as the race goes on.

As Baier spoke about how President Joe Biden seems to anticipate a rematch with Trump, he noted the reality that Trump still “overwhelmingly” tops DeSantis in the polls.

“Something has to change dramatically,” Baier said. “There may be events that we don’t know. There may be other legal challenges that [Trump] faces. There may be other things that happen. But there has to be a significant movement to change the dynamic. Right now former President Trump controls the environment, he controls the base, and he controls the messaging.”

Baier did acknowledge, on the other hand, that Trump has been fuming at DeSantis for months and spending money on attack ads against him.

“You don’t do that unless you consider that person a threat,” Baier said. “And tomorrow, he officially — DeSantis does — gets into this race and potentially could be a threat to the not-Trump group of candidates who are trying to be the alternative.”

It won’t be a battle..

Desantis will be dispatched faster than Rubio.

But it certainly will damage Desantis in the future.

I hope the globalist/establishment/Uniparty cut him a big check, because his long term political carreer will almost certainly be limited after this

“Whether it is trump or DeSantis, the winner better pick Scott as their Veep if they want to win the General.”

Or, if GOP voters want something like that, select Tim Scott as the presidential candidate and get that woman senator from Alaska to be the vice presidential candidate.

Scott says he really likes her.

It is so weird to me that in order for trump to win the primary neither trump nor his supporters realize he’s absolutely nuking his chances in the general.

Actually, I think it's the other way around. As governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis has been waging high-profile battles that will endear him to GOP groups like evangelical Christians, but will turn him off to almost every other voting cohort in America today.

I've said for months that the Rust Belt states Trump won unexpectedly in 2016 -- mostly on the strength of support from independents and even many Democrats -- will never vote for an establishment Republican tool like Ron DeSantis.

In every way, this is a huge strategic error by DeSantis to run this cycle

You are correct, the minute he announces, his political future vanishes.

But he took the money from the "donor community", that only comes around once, they are obviously not letting him off the hook, so he has to walk the plank.

It's too bad. He has some political talents, but he chose the wrong friends.

Yes, Trump was elected by 60,000 Democrats in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, any of them who are still alive will be RFK jr. voters this time around.

So you think that Trump taking Disney's side in their feud with DeSantis will help Trump with Republicans? Hmm.

And you also want me to believe the people who voted for Trump in 2016 and then did NOT vote for him in 2020 will now go back and vote for him in 2024? Hmmmmmm.

The folks I have been talking to here is SW FL think he can do even more awesome things for Florida if he is the President. We would feel betrayed if he DIDN’T run.

81 million 0’Biδen ballots have standing. The printing presses have won.

74 million voters have been no standing. Reality has no place in this fundamentally transformed America.
